Today, California hardcore band Bloodguilt unveil their debut self-titled EP out through New Age Records. Self-recorded and then mixed by Beau Burchell (Saosin), the Bloodguilt EP is five direct, rapid and pissed off tracks that will appeal to old and new fans of the genre alike. With over thirty years in hardcore and alternative rock, Bloodguilt’s members have brought their expertise from playing in bands such as Taken, Stavesacre, Focused, Project 86, and Starflyer 59 into the immense sound on the record.
“Push” kicks off the EP in classic hardcore fashion with blitzy guitars and an impassioned vocal performance from Ray Harkins. The song’s message of being true to yourself resonates with the lyrical theming found across the release. “Straight Forward’s” pulsating whirlwind of guitars and drums bust into a striking breakdown. Influence from peers like Unbroken and Strife storm through on the track, while reflecting a modern, crisp sound. “Solid Ground” closes out the EP like a runaway freight train packed to the brim with unique and menacing rhythms. The song propels forward at maddening pace without flying off the rails and leaves the listener clamoring for what’s next from the band.
