HEROES AND MONSTERS Heroes And Monsters
A new power trio formed by bassist/vocalist Todd Kerns, guitarist Stef Burns and drummer Will Hunt, the self-titled debut album by Heroes And Monsters is stuffed with hard-hitting, hooky, in-your-face rock n’ roll that acknowledges the past while being firmly of the present. Kerns is best known for his ongoing tenure in Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators, but has also fronted the Canadian acts The Age Of Electric and Toque. The versatile Burns has played with rockers Y&T and Alice Cooper as well as pop artists like Sheila E., Berlin and Huey Lewis & The News. Hunt has been the drummer in Evanescence since 2007, while the in-demand skinsman has also performed with the likes of Vince Neil, Tommy Lee, Staind, Slaughter played on albums by Black Label Society, Michael Sweet (Stryper), Dirty Shirley (George Lynch) and more.

TEN Something Wicked This Way Comes
The second of two albums recorded during lockdown, this new record sees mainman Gary Hughes and his regular cohorts continue to raise the musical bar, with stunning guitar work, rich keyboards and nifty rhythm section interplay perfectly complementing Hughes’ rich voice. Finding an audience in the mid-90s playing a brand of melodic hard rock influenced by UFO, Thin Lizzy, Magnum, Giant, Whitesnake and others, TEN have built a revered back catalogue and have been mainstays of their gene ever since.

ISSA Lights Of Japan
This magnificent seventh album by Norwegian melodic rock queen Issa is a gorgeously majestic, with her vocals sitting atop soaring, beautiful tunes and hooks galore. Yet another gem in her crown, it sees her working with producer/musician Michele Guaitoli (Visions Of Atlantis, Kalidia, SheWolf). Her husband James Martin and his brother Tom, both former members of UK rock band VEGA, have written the bulk of the record.

BIG CITY Sunwind Sails
The second album by the Norwegian hard rockers to feature vocalist Jørgen Bergersen, ‘Sunwind Sails’ sees the singer and his bandmates kick everything up a notch from the melodic hard rock meets metal stylings of their previous releases. Originally put together by guitarist and songwriter Daniel Olaisen (Blood Red Throne, Scariot), they debuted in 2014 with the album ‘Wintersleep’, followed by ‘Big City Life’ in 2018 and the well received ‘Testify X’ in 2021 with Bergersen on board.

ELECTRIC MOB 2 Make U Cry & Dance
The Brazilian rock n’ roll juggernaut Electric Mob stormed onto the scene in 2020 with ‘Discharge’, a debut album that wowed listeners with its modern take on classic bluesy hard rock executed with heartfelt, soulful musicianship and monstrously huge vocals. This follow-up effort sees them take a massive leap forward on what is truly an all killer, no filler affair and a release that is proof positive that high quality rock does not adhere to any geographical borders. Renan Zonta (vocals), Ben Hur Auwarter (guitar), Yuri Elero (bass) and André Leister (drums) write songs that are a mixture of powerful vocals, mean guitar riffs and heavy groove with influences from the ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s, all delivered with panache.

CROWNE Operation Phoenix
This second album by the highly touted Swedish supergroup is another stunning tour-de-force of melodic hard rock with hints of metal. Comprised of a stellar cast in vocalist Alexander Strandell (Art Nation), guitarist Love Magnusson (Dynazty), keyboard player, rhythm guitarist and producer Jona Tee (H.E.A.T, New Horizon), bassist John Levén (Europe) and drummer Christian Lundqvist (The Poodles), Crowne can lay claim to being the most exciting supergroup ever to emerge from the scene in their homeland. Having debuted with the acclaimed ‘Kings In The North’ in 2021, they have somehow bettered it with ‘Operation Phoenix’.

RONNIE ROMERO Raised On Heavy Radio
A companion piece to 2022’s classic rock and AOR covers collection, ‘Raised On Radio’, Chilean singer Romero pays tribute to legendary metal acts such as Ozzy Osbourne, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Accept and Metallica this time around with the help of guest musicians including Gus G. (Firewind, Ozzy Osbourne), Chris Caffery (Savatage, Spirits Of Fire) and Roland Grapow (Masterplan, Helloween). Romero’s prolific work in Lords of Black, The Ferrymen, Sunstorm, Rainbow and the Michael Schenker Group have brought him to the forefront of the hard rock/metal scene in recent years, with this album serving as another treat for his fans while he continues work on his debut solo album proper. ARCTIC RAIN Unity
The second album by Swedish melodic rockers Arctic Rain sees them building on 2020’s ‘The One’ with a set of bigger, bolder songs with a rockier edge that are built around the bedrock of band mainstays Magnus Berglund (guitars) and Tobias Jonsson (vocals), complemented by the rhythm section of bassist Gert Daun and drumming of new member Richard Tonyson, plus tasteful keyboards of fellow newbie Kaspar Dahlqvist.

GIRISH AND THE CHRONICLES Back On Earth
(re-recorded reissue)
Indian hard rockers Girish And The Chronicles recently made the decision to re-record their 2014 debut album rather than simply reissue it, with frontman Girish Pradhan explaining that “We have made changes to these songs in live shows and thought ‘Why not do the same with the recordings?’ We always felt that we had technical challenges back in the day and couldn’t deliver the hard hitting sound that we had originally intended, and here was an opportunity to make them feel closer to where we are now.” Founded in 2009, GATC have been credited by many for reintroducing classic hard rock culture to India, while ‘Back On Earth’ introduced GATC the group to a global audience. They have released three albums to date, with the original release of ‘Back On Earth’ followed by ‘Rock The Highway’ in 2020 and ‘Hail To The Heroes’ in 2022.
