“With a thrilling sound and lofty ambitions, Fletchr Fletchr are on the path to the big time”
– Rolling Stone UK Fletchr Fletchr are pleased to announce their second EP On The Island We Call Home, which will be released on Friday 21st August via Polydor. Alongside this, they share their new single, ‘Streetlights’, a song full of hope and longing. Listen here With the nostalgia of a relationship at its heart, the track’s anthemic vocal melodies and high-octane drums provide a palpable driving force. These elements run in tandem with vocalist Rohan Fletcher’s passionately delivered lyrics on falling love and keeping the connection alive whilst navigating obstacles, as he explains: “‘Streetlights’ is about falling in love. Feeling like everything was aligned for you, then dealing with keeping that initial connection as alight as possible through the ups and downs of a relationship. ‘Streetlights’ feels special… it’s a much more hopeful take on this topic than we’ve written before.” The accompanying music video, directed by Maisy Banks, continues the expressive storytelling from Fletchr Fletchr’s previous release ‘Fucking With My Head’, with the interpretive dancer reflecting the record’s lyrical depth. It sees the rising young band blossom; with songs encompassing universal anxieties about modern life, whilst remaining fully charged with hope and optimism via their widescreen indie rock sound, it all makes for a life-affirming concoction. On the EP, Rohan adds: “‘On The Island We Call Home’ feels like our most polished piece of work yet. While still completely self produced, we’ve refined what we learnt from ‘We All Feel The Same’ into a much heavier hitting project that was curated to translate on the live stage. We dive deeper than we have before on this EP, and it’s only the start of our next chapter. The themes we explore are more mature and we approach them with a better sense of what’s going on around us. You can hear a bit more angst and anger in this new set of songs.” The band have recently performed at Isle of Wight Festival and Metronome in Prague, as well as supporting Dogstar at the Roundhouse in Camden. This autumn, they will embark on a UK headline tour, including a night at London’s Chats Palace on Thursday 24th September. Tickets can be purchased at fletchrfletchr.com. A full list of dates below. As should be expected from a band of brothers in all but blood, the music of Fletchr Fletchr has an instinctive connection between their two chief songwriters, Rohan Fletcher and Adam Sanders. The pair began their teenage musical discovery together, making music in sixth form before assisting each other through solo careers. They then went through breakups at the same time and worked through them by forming their own band. The pair were bonded further through the passing of Rohan’s dad, their biggest fan and source of encouragement. “That’s when he became a Fletcher,” Rohan says of his bandmate. His memory stands firm in the band’s ongoing pursuit of creativity, friendship and togetherness through anything that’s thrown at them. As Rohan says, “we’re doing it in the name of something now, rather than just for ourselves.” The band also comprises university friend Oli Williams on drums and George Green on bass – who contributed to the writing process for the first time on their latest work. Their dizzying guitar songs have quickly found a kinship with a smart, young fanbase. After consecutively selling out several grassroots venues last year, they embarked on their debut headline tour last autumn, concluding at a sold-out Dome in London’s Tufnell Park. With a debut album already in the band’s sights, Fletchr Fletchr’s momentum shows no sign of slowing. |
