Atlanta-bred guitarist, singer and songwriter Eddie 9V announces his new album DOWN HERE, his debut release for Easy Eye Sound, produced by GRAMMY® Producer of the Year winner Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys.

Recorded at Auerbach’s legendary Easy Eye Sound Studio in Nashville, DOWN HERE captures Eddie 9V at a defining moment — a road-tested artist bringing years of sweat-soaked shows, Southern soul, blues, rock & roll, and raw instinct into his most fully realised album yet. Album Pre-save / Pre-order HERE

The first glimpse into the world Eddie and Auerbach created arrives with ‘Blowin’ Up’, which made its exclusive debut on SiriusXM’s The Spectrum on Tuesday 14 ahead of its official release on today. Listen HERE, Watch video HERE.

A swaggering blast of country-fried funk, greasy slide guitar, and deep-pocket grooves, the track captures Eddie 9V doing what he does best — locking into a feel and letting the personality fly. On the surface, the song sounds like a tongue-in-cheek meditation on finally breaking through, but Eddie 9V flips the idea of ‘blowing up’ on its head, punctuating the track with actual explosions and the kind of off-the-cuff charm that has become a trademark of his live shows.

“It’s my favourite song on the album. It’s got such a good groove,” says Eddie 9V.

Born from a set of intense writing sessions led by Auerbach at Easy Eye Sound, DOWN HERE finds Eddie opening himself up to a new creative process after years of writing, producing, and carving out his own path on his own terms. He was joined by fellow soul-blues guitarist Marcus King and veteran songwriters Pat McLaughlin (Bonnie Raitt, John Prine, Tanya Tucker) and Daniel Tashian (Kacey Musgraves, Lee Ann Womack, Josh Turner).

“I write all the time, but it was the first time I’ve ever done a writing session in Nashville,” says Eddie 9V. “You’re dealing with songwriters that are at the top of their game and that was incredible for me. I learned to focus solely on the writing.”

Auerbach’s tight-but-loose approach behind the board proved to be the perfect match for Eddie’s instinctive musicianship, soulful guitar work, and old-school work ethic.

“We spent more time writing than we did recording, which meant we could focus on getting a good take,” says Auerbach. “It was all about capturing that magic moment, that fire. Eddie just killed it, especially when he was playing those solos live. We were all feeding off his energy because not only is he a great singer, his guitar playing is also incredible.”

Raised in the red clay of Atlanta and sharpened through years on the road, Eddie 9V has built his reputation the old-fashioned way — one stage at a time. After picking up guitar at six, he moved through the worlds of metal and indie rock before discovering Howlin’ Wolf’s legendary 1966 Newport Folk Festival performance — a moment that forever changed his musical direction.

“Something just exploded in me when I saw that clip, and it set me on a different path,” says Eddie.

Cutting his teeth in Atlanta clubs, Eddie 9V found himself playing four-and-a-half-hour nights — sometimes just for tips — building the instinct, feel, and connection with an audience that would become central to his sound. By 17, he was already touring out of state, sharpening his stagecraft and songwriting. In 2019, he wrote, produced, and released his debut album Left My Soul In Memphis.

The albums that followed — Little Black Flies (2021), Capricorn (2023), recorded at the legendary Capricorn Studios in Macon, and Saratoga (2024) — expanded Eddie’s audience around the world while earning praise for his ability to channel classic American roots music without ever feeling stuck in the past.

Drawing from a lineage that runs through The Allman Brothers, Al Green, Freddie King, and Tony Joe White, DOWN HERE captures the feel of musicians creating together in real time — loose, alive, and impossible to fake.

“I hope when people hear this record they feel the soul of it,” says Eddie 9V. “I want them to feel like they’re sitting in the studio with us as we’re making music.”

DOWN HERE is ultimately the sound of an artist taking everything he learned in smoky clubs, roadside stops, and thousands of miles on the highway — and pouring it into the most honest, unfiltered record of his career. “I’m at a transformational point in my life right now,” says Eddie 9V.

“I’m having to catch myself and remember to enjoy the moment. Making this record has taught me how to put my guard down and just have fun rather than worrying about thingsI think that’s what you can feel on the record — a sense of freedom.”
