Delain // Dance With The Devil // Album Review

8

I have to admit, although I have known Delain has been rocking their cute little socks off for a while now, and I have never really taken the time to delve into the band and their music, today it is time for that to change.

Their new album ‘Dance With The Devil’ lands November 8th courtesy of Napalm Records, The album itself kicks off with the album title track and right away you are thrust into a world of highly melodic vocals, gnarly riffage all fused sand held together by a synth/electronica backbone that is so easy on the ear.

‘The Reaping’ kicks in with a wall of distortion against that familiar synth sound, pummelling drums before Diana Leah’s subtle vocals come in and create a glorious soundscape in which to lose yourself, the banging riffage laid down by Ronald Linda just gets your stank face in full force and they cut through the mix, the ambience created by the heavy sythn’s against the backdrop of the violence of the band all fused with Diana’s light vocal style creates an amazing fusion that collides to create a truly beautiful sonic landscape you cant help but enjoy.

The band have a glorious weight to their sound, but Diana’s carefully crafted vocal delivery allows her to create an almost 3D dynamic that separates her from the aggressive sound that the band creates around her, she has a majestic vocal range and showcases it time and time again across the recording. You have monstrous-sounding choral vocals adding further weight to the songwriting, dynamic tempo and rhythmic changes that just keep you engrossed right across the album; you can just imagine the live experience, full force in your face, the full effect of their sound enveloping you in an intimate venue. Dance With The Devil features a thrilling collection of two brand new tracks, two newly presented favourites, nine electrifying live performances, and two instrumental bonus tracks, there is a lot of love out there for the genre, especially on the European scene, we have seen an explosion over the last few years of Melodic/Symphonic and Power Metal bands hit the scene, even more so on the Viking and Pirate side of the coin, offering an abundance of bands for music lover to choose from but a band like Delain just set themselves apart with the quality of the musicianship and songwriting within.

You don’t need to take my word for it, Delain will return to the UK and Ireland in November 2024 for seven headline dates. Joining them for all dates will be West Mid rock squad Stone Broken and progressive metal musician Damian Wilson, this will be the perfect opportunity for you to check them out for yourselves. If, like me, you have been sitting on the Delain fence a little too long, jump off and jump in! ‘Dance With The Devil’ is the perfect opportunity to understand what this band is all about, why they are so popular, and why they will be a staple in the genre for years to come.

‘Dance With The Devil’ arrives November 8th courtesy of Napalm Records.
