dead7’s debut album, “Love What You Can While You Got Something To Love”, is a glorious soundscape that is so full of contrasting sounds it is sensational.
The opener “Blur” being a case in point, starting out like an electro dance track before exploding into a full on metal onslaught with crashing drums and a savage riff before it’s brought to an abrupt halt, the track see saws like this and leaves with gasping for air as you don’t know whether you’re coming or going, an absolute stonking start.
“Hole” is the perfect blend of savage and melodic, assaulting your senses with a blistering attack at the start before dropping to a catchy verse with an electro beat and melodic vocals. The track swings back and forth like this before going out with a bang. “Blood” is a power ballad in the loosest sense of the word with its electro funky beat and powerful clean vocals that is interspersed with a kicking drum beat, thumping bass and cutting riffs, the blend of melodic and screamed vocals combined with the mix of electro and metal is unbelievable; polar opposites that work amazingly together, a real highlight track. “Nuclear” is a metalcore as they come with a pulsating drum beat and a killer bass line that drives the track. Kozik’s vocals are cracking here as he switches from clean to screamed with minimum effort while the funky electro beats tear it up in the background; this is a monster tune. The chugging riffs propel “Enemy” to a real high point of the album with its crunching sound that embeds itself in your brain as Kozik’s vocals, haunting at times, bring you up and down on this rollercoaster ride, a contender for track of the album.
“Teeth” is a bit of a personal favourite; the way the electro style takes control of the track but with the metal monster lurking in the shadows ready to punch when called upon giving the track a sinister feel, for me the best track on the album, the thunderous bass line at the close puts the cherry on top. “Please” has a real pop punk feel to it, from the airy style vocals to the pounding drum and electro beats, it wouldn’t be out of place on a Blink 182 album, a great track. Bass is the name of the game on “Tattoo”, a massive bass beat pushes the track along, once again the ease at which these guys change the styles up is amazing, the bass is so heavy but it doesn’t over ride the track, in fact it slows down and enhances it. “Floating” opens with a crushing guitar and bass combo that the track builds off, Kozik goes off the deep end here with his screamed vocals and are a great foil to the madness that is going on around him, there is a real visceral feel to this one. “Dopesick” closes out the album in true ballad style, it ebbs and flows throughout before finishing with a rousing crescendo, a nice way to finish off the album.
