So, I have been putting out press for Dead Pony for a while, and they have always been on my radar, but I just had not thrown myself into the band and their soundtrack, when their new EP was on the horizon, and they dropped the lead single ‘Eat My Dust’, all that changed!
The new EP arrives this coming Friday, May 15th, and it is an absolute banger. The opener ‘What If?” It’s a teaser for what’s to come, a subtle introduction to the EP that is a distraction for what is to follow, as it eases you in with its dark atmospheric opening sequence before unleashing unholy hell 1 min 22 seconds in. It goes from zero to full throttle in the blink of an eye with serious Spirit Box vibes.
The beauty that is ‘Eat My Dust’ lands at track 2, and it was the one that captured my imagination about the band, with a stellar visual to accompany an absolute banger. The riffage is glorious, and Anna Shields’s droning vocals are mesmerising against the violent wall of distortion. The accompanying video was just beautiful, with really strong visuals that captured the track’s angst perfectly and the energy the band threw out at will. One of the songs of the year for me.
‘Freak Like Me’, their second single from the EP, recently dropped and delivered another flavour from the band, playing with electronica influences over their rough-and-ready rock vibes. The band have cut their own sound in a market quite saturated with cookie-cutter bands, separating them from the chasing pack by fusing influences and baking one serious Dead Pony delicacy to feed their ever-hungry fan base. For those who were in early with the band, they will know more than most what this vivacious four-piece is capable of; their latest EP is just a taste of that, following on from their debut album ‘Ignore This’, which announced their arrival on the scene back in 2024. ‘Eat My Dust’ shows the growth within the band as they deliver a harder-hitting collection of songs that will no doubt bring in a new army of fans along for the ride as tracks like ‘Boom!’ And ‘Fury’ drive home their songwriting prowess.
‘Lost Inside Of Me’ wraps us in a delicious collection of tracks, with a strong ending and another that lets the band flex its musical muscles with ease.
A killer EP, one seriously tasty band. Dead Pony are a band that needs to be on your radar for 2026 and beyond.
