6 June 2025 Alternative folk singer songwriter Chloe Foy unveils her second album ‘Complete Fool’, a snapshot in how to navigate the messy, unfiltered aspects of love, as well as her own journey of self-discovery and finding her voice. The record highlights a deepened, richer sound; merging rock-tinged folk with classic strings and layered vocals that she is becoming known for. It’s a celebration of the bittersweet-ness of life, with a view to take the listener down new and interesting paths. Recorded with Dave Izumi at Echo Zoo Studios in Eastbourne, the relaxed home-from-home studio setting and Izumi’s encouragement to experiment, gave way to a record that is less preoccupied with caring what the world thinks. This prioritisation of authenticity over perfection is perhaps reflective of the record’s subject matter. Complete Fool explores real love and puts a microscope to the finer details of what it means to love long-term. The album isn’t afraid to ask difficult questions. What is the cost of a long-term relationship? How do you balance divergent ambitions and priorities? Do we lose parts of ourselves in the process of falling in love? The answer lies in this beautiful, poignant, yet celebratory tribute to real life and real love. “This album was born out of the chaos of the pandemic and the end of a decade-long relationship. At the time, I was holding on to the person I loved, hoping they’d help me through such an uncertain and difficult period. But, looking back, I realize it’s not just about clinging to someone else—it became a reflection of my own journey with love, loss, and finding my way through mental health struggles”, comments Chloe. To accompany the album’s release, Chloe shares the title track ‘Complete Fool’ – a playful commentary on being a woman in love. Chloe speaks on the single, “It’s a tongue-in-cheek look at what it means to be a woman in love—and how tricky the power dynamics can be. By this point, I think I’d realised I wasn’t okay. The song admits to placing unfair expectations on a partner to fix me—but it also speaks to a wider dynamic. He was the strong one, the stable one. I was tired of always being the fragile, sensitive one. At its heart, the song is about not taking life—or yourself—too seriously, even when you’re on the brink of some tough conversations”. With her strikingly beautiful voice and emotionally direct songwriting, Chloe Foy has a penchant for finding magic in the spaces between light and dark. Growing up in the quiet of the English countryside, it was through music that she first learned how to express the nuance of emotion. Her songs are a reflection of that stillness, woven with threads of vulnerability and longing. Her lyrics speak to the complexity of the human experience — love, loss, and the subtle daily battles we all fight. With a voice that’s as delicate as it is powerful, she creates music that speaks to the heart, carrying listeners through moments of intimacy, wonder, and reflection. Chloe Foy introduced herself to the world with her 2021 debut, Where Shall We Begin. A rich and meticulously put together debut centred on the loss of her dad to suicide, the album received rave reviews from the likes of The Sunday Times, Clash and The Line of Best Fit. The album cemented Chloe as a voice to watch in the UK folk space and culminated in a headline tour in October 2021, support shows for Jesca Hoop, William The Conqueror, and Courtney Marie Andrews as well as performances at Glastonbury, Folk Alliance (USA) and How The Light Gets In. ‘Complete Fool’ album artwork |
