Ber’s recent singles speak to the sad indie-pop girl zeitgeist, each song hitting you in the feels with emotions that only make sense once they’ve been unlocked in song. They’re topics that so many people go through, from navigating the uncertainty of a situation (
‘It’s Impressive’) and fearing that a new relationship will only bring fresh hurt (
‘Room For You’) to the more positive feeling of realising that an ex is an ex for a reason (
‘Better Man’). Now
Ber completes this stage in her story by sharing the new five-track EP
‘Room For You’. Listen HERE.She launches the EP with the new focus track ‘Whatever Forever’, a feelgood guitar-led groove that provides a spirited early summer vibe as the counterpoint to her more introspective recent songs. Ber’s lyrics celebrate how exhilarating it feels when someone steps into your life in such a way that suddenly anything feels possible. While it’s a song that feels completely in tune with a new romance, its inspiration instead comes from the power of friendship.
Ber says, “It’s rare to meet people that you wish would just stick around forever! After my first headline tour, I had fallen in love with my bandmates and friends that were on that tour and just couldn’t imagine a world where we didn’t get to do that for the rest of our lives. After a trip to LA to write and hang out with someone I had known for a long time, I left feeling so anxious to just get back to that place, in their car, on their roof, on their sofa just listening to our favourite songs and drinking wine, feeling so myself and so happy for the first time in what felt like forever.
This song is about those people and those moments that you find yourself lost in that you never want to end. This song feels like sunshine to me and has soundtracked some of the happiest moments from the last year of my life. I am so happy for it to finally be out!”
The EP is completed by a second new song in the shape of ‘Middle of Nowhere’. It’s a song which adds a touch of folk to her storytelling style of pop before building into a powerful crescendo, with Ber ruminating on a relationship in which she gave far more than she ever received in return.
Ber wrote or co-wrote all five songs on the EP, which was produced by Brad Hale and Now Now.
Ber adds, “I can’t really put into words how much this collection of five songs mean to me. This wave of songs feel the most me of any project I’ve worked on and released and I’m so excited to share them with you.”
The ‘Room For You’ EP holds further significance for Ber as its green vinyl format (available HERE) is her first project to receive a physical release.
Ber will celebrate the release of ‘Room For You’ by playing a hometown show at Fine Lines in Minneapolis tonight. She returns to the UK to play a long sold-out acoustic show at London’s Paper Dress Vintage on June 26th. Also confirmed is a large outdoor show as special guest to Dawes in July, also in Minneapolis.
The 26-year-old singer-songwriter has moved around extensively in her life. Born in Minnesota, she spent much of her early adult life in Leeds and Trondheim (she has Norwegian family heritage and grew up speaking the language) before returning to the States. She has audibly grown throughout the course of her two previous EPs, ‘And I’m Still Thinking About That’ and last year’s six-track ‘Halfway’, the two sets supported with airplay from Radio 1 and Apple Music 1. Her touring has included shows as guest to Sigrid, Holly Humberstone, Maisie Peters, Tom Odell and JP Saxe, while in the UK she has headlined The Lower Third and performed at festivals such as The Great Escape, Latitude, Barn on the Farm and Live At Leeds.
