Brought into being by Strangle Wire‘s Pete Clarke as a creative outlet for his primal death metal urges, a space where he could explore a purely old school approach and let his love for the early works of bands like Cannibal Corpse, Six Feet Under, Obituary and Cancer run rampant, Northern Ireland’s Corpse Water eschews expressions of technical supremacy in favour of flesh-rending riffs, scarring grooves and inescapable hooks. As Pete himself has explained…
“Corpse Water started as an idea to put together an album of old-school death metal, taking inspiration from the bands and records I grew up listening to. I’ve never been particularly interested in making music unnecessarily complicated. I just wanted to write songs that people could enjoy listening to.”The result of these endeavours was the debut Corpse Water album,
…Something In The Water, which was released on a strictly limited lime green vinyl edition via
Grindscene Records in May. However, interest in the release far outstripped Pete’s initial expectations, with critical acclaim flooding in –
Rock ‘N’ Load declaring …Something In The Water “a remarkable album” in their 10/10 review. With demand growing Pete decided to look for a label who would be willing to take on a CD release of the album and found the perfect partner in the renowned Spanish champions of the underground,
Memento Mori…
“I’ve been familiar with Memento Mori for some time” Pete reveals “and have a lot of respect for what they’ve done within the underground death metal scene. I’m delighted that Memento Mori will be releasing the album on CD. It’s great to have Corpse Water associated with a label that has such a strong commitment to underground death metal.”Memento Mori will be releasing …Something In The Water on CD on
October 26th – and this is just the beginning of the Corpse Water story according to Pete Clarke
“I’m already looking towards the second album, but for now I’m looking forward to seeing …Something in the Water released on CD and hopefully introducing the album to some new listeners.”
