London-born, Vietnamese-Chinese, emo-shoegaze artist Hongza today releases a super dreamy Alternative Version of his ultimate anthem of longing – ‘Lovesick’. Hongza says of the shift in sound for this new iteration of the track: “Lovesick always has lived in that dreamy shoegaze world and when recreating it I wanted to pay homage to all those bands I would listen to while endlessly scrolling on Tumblr. I knew it needed to have a lofi bedroom pop feel to start off with and then creep into a full band wall of sound experience.”

The release heralds the announcement of a Deluxe version of his 2024 ‘Coming Of Age’ EP. ‘Coming Of Age (Deluxe)’ will be released by Killabop on 29 July. This new and improved collection of tracks incorporates the original tracks of the release with ‘Lovesick (Alternative Version)’, as well as an Alternative Version of ‘She Changes The Weather’ and an Acoustic rendition of ‘Lovesick’. ‘Coming Of Age (Deluxe)’ adds another string to Hongza’s bow (or maybe make that his guitar) too: “I threw myself into the deep end to produce and mix these songs myself,” he says. “I’d never done that before and have learnt so much about production along the way. Massive shoutout to my producer Larry Hibbitt and my guitarist George Curnick for guidance on all of this! I’ve now started feeling confident enough to start producing for other bands, so watch this space.”

“‘Lovesick’ is a track about yearning for someone you’re so deeply in love with but can’t get to because they live hundreds of miles away. The feeling of euphoria when you get to see their face after weeks apart,” Hongza previously mused. Both that sense of yearning and a sheer euphoric feel are palpable through the song’s reverb-drenched riffs, driving drums and lush, dreamy melody. And now those feelings are translated in ‘Lovesick (Alternative Version)’. The original ‘Coming Of Age’ tracks were produced by longtime collaborator Larry Hibbitt (Nothing But Thieves, Boston Manor, Dinosaur Pile-Up).
