Brighton-based Nu-gothika quartet KNIFE BRIDE have today unleashed their concept-fuelled EP ‘sorry about the plague’, produced by Neil Kennedy (Creeper, Boston Manor, Casey) and mixed and mastered by Lewis Johns (Loathe, Slow Crush, Funeral For A Friend). Vocalist Mollie Clack describes it simply as “A conversation with shame.” Your first opportunity to experience “the plague” and the antics of “the bride”will be on the band’s current tour with Calva Louise. Details below.
The EP includes three brand new tracks, with ‘lilies’ as a focus for release week. “lilies explores a complicated relationship with antidepressants – the trade-off between emotional numbness and an overwhelming darkness,” says Mollie of the conflicted composition. “It captures the feeling of being disconnected, as if you’re not fully present in your own life, while also knowing that without the medication, a deeper heaviness can take hold. The song sits in that tension, weighing what feels like two imperfect choices: facing your struggles alone or losing a sense of feeling altogether.
This single is particularly visceral and aims to paint a gory and gothic picture, with the question, “Am I beautiful now?” reflecting an ongoing search for inner worth, shaped by intrusive thoughts and self-doubt that never quite settle. The image of broken lilies symbolising moments of despair so intense it feels as though even medication can’t reach you.”
It follows on from lead single ‘crucify’ – “a reflection on self-destructive behaviour and the ways we sabotage parts of our lives” – which landed Alyx Holcombe’s coveted BBC Radio 1 Introducing Rock Track of The Week, as well as gaining spots in the Kerrang! Chart and Metal Hammer’s “Best Metal Songs You Need To Hear This Week”. ‘crucify’ also held it down on some crucial playlists at the likes of Spotify, Apple Music and Amazon.
The EP’s opener ‘alone at the altar’, released at the tail end of 2025, set the tone with a dramatic world of sound evoked within the conceptually-inspired track. Mollie said “‘alone at the altar’ marks both the first edition and the first invitation to meet the bride herself. The vision behind this single was to truly bring her to life in all her chaotic glory – flawed, unhinged, yet undeniably vulnerable. She’s narcissistic, nihilistic, sensational, and shamelessly braggadocious, but there’s a curious streak in her, a fragile glimmer of innocence she still clings to. The title “alone at the altar” embodies a woman possessed: possessed by desire, by destruction, by the need to hurt others and herself. It’s a visceral exploration of self, told through the eyes of a merciless yet hopelessly romantic bride.”
KNIFE BRIDE – Mollie Clack (lead vocals), Sean Windle (guitar, backing vocals), Sean Millsopp (drums, extra production), and Craig Glynn (bass, screams) – have developed their own immersive sound (coining the term “nu-gothika”), which incorporates a wide range of inky influences including Spiritbox, Kate Bush and Bring Me The Horizon and Karnivool. They fuse these with cinematic fantasy to create character narratives and explore human experiences.
