Klogr // Fractured Realities // Album Review

It is not often you get something that surprises you in a nice way, when I first saw the name in my inbox I immediately jumped to Scandinavian Death Metal as it has that kind of name but I was taken aback to find out that the band in question is an Italian alt/rock band that is good.

Having been around since 2011 they are dab hands at this game and on their new album “Fractured Realities” they have a real gem on their hands. “Early Wounds” sets the album up brilliantly with its massive sound; opening with a pounding drum and bass beat that runs well with Rusty’s silky vocals, incredible by the way and draws you in, while the verses’ are heavy the chorus’ is the opposite and extremely hooky, the guitars are amazing from the cool riffs to the solo they are just on another level, this is a real standard bearer, a cracking opening. “Gravity Of Fear” is heavier mainly due to the monster bass line that the track builds off, the one thing that very quickly becomes apparent is the band’s ability to create a catchy chorus; as on this one, the melodicism them plays off the heavier verses’ unbelievably, a truly great track.

“The Twisted Art” opens with a funky keys riff that runs throughout the track, there is also a killer groove to this one but it’s at the breakdown where the heavy comes in and the pace is a bit more frantic, one of the best tracks on the album. “Face Of The Unknown” opens with a nice solo before Rusty comes in over the top, the drums and guitars kick in behind him to build the heaviness while the bass rumbles along in the background, the intensity on this one amps the track. Bringing the heavy is “One Of Eight” A sinister feel runs through this one with down-tuned instruments and a foreboding drum beat as Rusty’s gravelly vocals add to the feeling, a fantastic track. “Lead Wings” is possibly the best track on the album; a bass lead number, Pivanti take a Bow, that is much heavier and punchier than the previous tracks ably assisted by the thunderous drum beat, crunching riffs and a nifty solo, Rusty goes all out on this one vocally, this is how music should be.

“Unspoken Words” changes things up a little; there is a bouncing rhythm to it that is so infectious, and the kicking drums and smooth groovy riffs added to Rusty’s killer vocals make the track pop. The crunching guitar riffs and buzzing bass line on “Hysterical Blindness” are immense, really driving the track add to that a heavy drum beat to create a kicking rhythm making it a track that is hard to beat. The slower tempo of “Waking World” gives the track a darker edge; with heavy riffs and a pounding drum beat, you feel a sense of dread as Rusty’s near pleading vocals add to it, the solo towards the back end of the track is excellent. The album closes with “Whale Fall”, again a slower heavier track but with a great melody to it, the soaring chorus’ makes this track stand out but the whole composition of the song is amazing; from the slower subdued drumming to the rumbling bass line, killer guitar work and Rusty’s smooth vocals it is a masterclass in how to play rock music.

Taken by surprise with this one and thoroughly enjoyed it, “Fractured Realities” is out 25th of October, don’t miss it.
