LISTEN HERE June 26th 2026 – LA grunge band Zephyring have today dropped their debut album Detournement. Out now via Grunge Pop Records it is available to stream everywhere here. Detournement has been produced by the legendary Steve Albini (Nirvana, Pixies, Fugazi), who also delivers a commanding whistle on ‘Jesus Was A Vegetarian’, bolstering the song’s powerful statement and chorus “meat is murder”. It’s a punk rock anthem of sustainability housed in the raw and raucous record. Regarding the track Zephyring frontman and guitarist Taz says, “Steve liked the song so much even though he is definitely not a vegetarian. He added his whistle to the track telling us it needed it. He always had that whistle on him and kept using it while laughing saying we’re now Guns N’ Roses…” The album sees Taz layout his life in unfiltered honesty, as demonstrated in ‘Black And Blue’, a bright and driving alt-rock track about his tragic addition to drugs. “I give my life to you, I cut my arms for you”, he sings. Continuing about ‘Black And Blue’ Taz says, “‘Black And Blue’ is one of the many songs I wrote out of desperation as I was addicted to drugs and had become suicidal. Too many people have felt the same way, and as you’ll see in the video, too many did take their own lives away. Not me. I survived somehow. I still fight the fight against the darkness that constantly tries to take me away from the light. I can’t exactly put in words the pain I experienced and that is why I write music, to speak my truth in song. My life is in my music.” Zephyring are resurrecting the Seattle 90s grunge sound, while also fusing punk, thrashing garage rock and raw indie rock. The trio – Taz (vocals, guitar), Billy (bass) and Eric (drums) – are busting out raw, distorted, four-chord epics, equal parts old school and new, as they carve their own distinct new wave of grunge music. Detournement was recorded on analog tape in just two days with Steve Albini. Together they have created dynamic pop songs with a hardcore edge, replacing slickness for a gritty live feel and punk attitude playing like a melting pot of Nirvana, The Lemonheads, The Meat Puppets and Fugazi. Speaking about the album Taz says, “When we recorded with Steve, we did 27 songs in just two days. It was truly a magical experience for us. Out of those songs, we chose six of them for the first EP titled ‘Hydraphantasy’ and now we’re getting out our favourite ten songs. ‘Detournement’ is basically the gems that shined the brightest for us and the music speaks for itself. It’s raw, it’s abrasive, it’s honest. It’s got Steve Albini all over it. He called us “the fastest band in the west” and it was an experience I’ll never forget or able to re do. Nothing will ever be the same now that he’s gone.” 30 years after grunge changed the face of music and culture forever, Zephyring have arrived to channel it’s raw unfiltered energy to reignite a passion for loud, distorted, underground rock in 2026.
