As powerfully demonstrated with his recent singles ‘Sharon’ and ‘Special Kind Of Woman’Yellow Days is stepping into a new era – one which brings the classicism of timeless funk and soul musicianship storming into the contemporary scene. Both tracks heighten expectations for the release of his new album ‘Rock And A Hard Place’ on February 13th – a statement further underlined as he shares his new single ‘I Can’t Believe In Tomorrow’.
Yellow Days admits that he has spent recent years perfecting his vocal and songwriting talents – and ‘I Can’t Believe In Tomorrow’ is proof that his efforts have been well rewarded. Full of feeling, masterly in its control and with a rich, lived-in timbre, his voice has never sounded better – like an old soul channelling prime Motown-style class for the modern age. It’s perfectly packaged within a vibrant funk/jazz fusion soundbed. Yet Yellow Days contrasts this striking accomplishment with a song which exposes a raw, unfiltered emotional response to circumstances around him.
Yellow Days – George van den Broek – says, “‘I Cannot Believe In Tomorrow’ is an example of a song where I try to write about immature feelings that I have, not trying to write wisely but just show the raw misguided feeling as it comes to you. This song is about being frustrated, feeling let down, and having unrealistically high standards. Essentially it’s a song about being annoyed. Musically it was inspired by Ray Charles, Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder.”
‘I Can’t Believe In Tomorrow’ is accompanied by a performance video which matches the visuals for ‘Sharon’ and ‘Special Kind Of Woman’.

The new artistic style unleashed in ‘Rock And A Hard Place’ is indicative of broader changes in George’s life – he recently married and is drug-free. But despite describing this as “the first adult album I’ve ever done” it also takes him back to the wide-eyed innocence of making music as a teenager. The difference between then and now, however, is discovering his voice and musical identity, and having the ability to convey those sonic desires. The album is available to pre-save HERE.
Step-by-step Yellow Days is building up a catalogue of rare diversity, from his naive-yet-inspired bedroom pop breakthrough with ‘Harmless Melodies’, to the ambition of the Mac DeMarco-approved ‘A Day In A Yellow Beat’ through to 2024’s conceptually adventurous ‘HOTEL HEAVEN’. And now ‘Rock And A Hard Place’ offers something very different – but also something that feels like a natural evolution from what preceded it.
Yellow Days has an epic touring schedule planned in support of ‘Rock And A Hard Place’. It starts in Mexico next month, before travelling across North America throughout March and then returning to the UK and Europe in April and May. Tickets for the dates, listed below, are available HERE.
