Opening the weekend on Friday night are Scottish-Irish alt-rock outfit Snow Patrol, who broke into the mainstream with their 2003 debut Final Straw. Following up with the multi-platinum success of 2006’s Eyes Open, which featured the international hit single ‘Chasing Cars’, they continued with a pair of UK Top Ten platinum efforts, A Hundred Million Suns (2008) and Fallen Empires (2011). After a hiatus, the band returned with Wildness in 2018, reaching Number 2 in the UK Official Album Charts. This year Snow Patrol are celebrating their 30th anniversary as a band – their headline set at Y Not is set to be an extra special one.
Taking to the Y Not stage on Saturday is legend of the indie scene, Jamie T. Known for his appealingly laid-back hip-hop vocal phrasing and eclectic bedroom DIY musical palette, Jamie T absorbed a variety of musical styles growing up in multicultural London before finding his own fiercely original sound. His 2007 debut album Panic Prevention was a critical success, setting the precedent for all five of his albums – they each placed in the Top 5 in the UK album charts, with his latest record 2022’s The Theory of Whatever, reaching Number 1. Amongst a vast discography, Jamie T has created multiple hits and firm favourites with fans, including ‘Sheila’, ‘Sticks ‘n’ Stones’, ‘Zombie’ and more.
Closing out the weekend, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds will perform on Sunday night. Noel Gallagher has shaped and inspired contemporary guitar music since his outset in the 1990’s as the principal songwriter, lead guitarist and occasional lead vocalist of Oasis, one of the biggest and most loved bands ever to emerge from the UK. His continued success with the High Flying Birds cements his position as one of the most prolific and successful British songwriters of the last 50 years. First emerging in 2011 and now with four studio albums, multiple EPs, a career-spanning Best Of and global tours under their belt, the recently released album, Council Skies, received widespread global acclaim. After a huge year for the band, this show at Y Not Festival is not one to be missed.
Kicking off the festival on Thursday night are Northern rockers Kaiser Chiefs. Almost three decades in the game, with an extensive back-catalogue of stadium belters, instrumental-prowess and record-breaking success, Kaiser Chiefs will headline Y Not for the very first time. The BRIT Award winners have seven Top 10 Albums, including two Number 1s, and their 2005 debut record Employment was a huge critical success, going on to become the fourth biggest selling album that year. There’s no slowing down for the Kaiser Chiefs, with their Easy Eighth Album due for release in March – expect some of those brand new songs when they head for the Pikehall hills this summer.
Playing alongside these huge acts are nostalgic indie heroes The Kooks, and pop rock artist Declan McKenna, off the back of his third album release. Plus The Vaccines, who just released their new record Pick-up Full of Pink Carnations.
Further additions to the line-up include storytelling pop artist Holly Humberstone, Nottingham singer-songwriter Jake Bugg, dance star Katy B, Manchester indie rockers Pale Waves, fiery punks Lambrini Girls, enduring indie band Spector, and many more.
Each year, Y Not Festival proudly builds its programme for families and children of all ages – with its own dedicated family camping area, and family zone to offer endless hours of fun for children with all day games & activities, magic shows and much more.
Jason Oakley, Managing Director at Y Not Festival, says: “Firstly I want to thank everyone who supported us again last year, who came along and enjoyed some fantastic music with us in our favourite place. We’re working hard to make this year even better, and we’re beyond excited to share 2024’s line-up with you. Heading to Pikehall this August is Snow Patrol, Jamie T and Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, as well as our Thursday headliners Kaiser Chiefs! There’s a huge line-up across the whole weekend including The Kooks, The Vaccines, Holly Humberstone, Jake Bugg, Katy B, Black Honey and so many more. We can’t wait to welcome you back this year!”
