Willie J Healey recently announced news of a new EP set for release on 4th September via V2. 143 will be released ahead of a short run of intimate October UK headline tour dates. New single ‘S’all Good’ is out now.

Always vibrant, groove-laced, and full of heart, on 143 Willie brings together 4-track home recordings with others made with producer Loren Humphrey in New York, the man behind his acclaimed 2023 album Bunny. Vintage textures, keen lyricism, and a unique worldview that unties the observational and the romantic, Willie again finds a way to tap into something universal.

Commenting on the new single he says: “S’all Good came from me messing around with guitar tunings and pitching stuff down on my 4-track after a sad few weeks. It was kinda my “accept all outcomes even the sad ones” type lesson. There’s some beauty in that. I took it to Loren in NYC and we got the basic tracking done – I then finished it off at my house in Bristol.”

About the new video he says: “My Dutch teacher sent me an old Dutch song to learn to help me get my head around the Dutch language. Can’t pronounce the name of the song because I haven’t learnt enough Dutch yet but the artwork on that song inspired the video. It’s a photograph of the singer in a suit with all of these balloons on stage and there was just something really sweet and simple about it, so I figured it would be a nice ode to that and that’s really all there is to it.

I guess the other feeling I had around trying to get the video done for S’all Good is that the song feels like somebody who’s waiting around for something to change or someone to come along. There’s a feeling of frustration to that, it’s quite sad because you feel like they’re waiting for something like a party and it’s just not coming and they’re being optimistic but they’re on their own.”

Continuing about the EP, he says: “143 is a collection of recordings pulled from different recording sessions. Some were made entirely on my 4 track at home and others were made with Loren Humphrey in New York. It feels good to me to make my own kind of mixtape. A compilation of my favourites!

I called it 143 because my friend sent me a message using that code and it took me a while to figure out that it means “I love you.” I thought hey that’s a nice way of not being too soppy. I think 143 was mainly used back when people had pagers. The songs and recordings really don’t have many bells and whistles, they’re all pretty straight up – we wanted to get the message across as directly as possible. It’s my most Neil yet.

It feels freeing to be releasing stuff I did at home with stuff from New York.. it’s kinda more my style than previous releases!”
