WHY SHOULD I is a two-piece band featuring guitarist Mark Lamb and drummer Scott Sprague. Between them they have experienced tours of duty in the metal trenches with the likes of Scorched-Earth Policy, Acid King, Fought Upon Earth, Sin Nombre, Scvmlot and Die Hard and all that history, all that dedication and belief has been poured into the riff driven instrumental heavy metal of WHY SHOULD I. The duo’s debut album, Turn It Off, is released today – October 30th – and they have marked the occasion with the release of a superb new video for the album track, ‘AxeFoot‘. The ‘AxeFoot’ video takes you into the basement rehearsal room where Turn It Off came to life, places you in the midst of the sweat, energy and volume that make this album such a vital and vibrant creation. Rooted in Lamb and Sprague’s belief that great heavy metal is rooted in ‘riffs and beats’, Turn It Off grew organically from the two friends’ shared passion for music. It’s honest, it’s real and it speaks to the souls of everyone who shares that lifelong love for heavy metal. ‘AxeFoot’ itself is an absolute feast of riffs, rhythms and solos – a true celebration of metal music. Powerful and hard-hitting it’s formed from many elements but each one is hard, heavy, gritty and driven, delivered with an absolute sense of joy. The force of thrash and the musicality of classic metal combine and you’ll be too busy headbanging to spare a thought for whether or not you prefer your songs to feature a lead vocal. The words of Ever Metal‘s recent review of Turn It Off ring so very true here…
“…a song without words will always be telling you something. It doesn’t give you a story. It gives you a chance to invent your own, and at the end of the day you own it.” So, enough of words – it’s time to immerse yourself in the metal!
