WALLICE
RELEASES DEBUT ALBUM
OUT NOW VIA DIRTY HIT
SHARES FOCUS TRACK
TO JOIN ST VINCENT ON US TOUR
Singer-songwriter Wallice shares her debut album, The Jester, out everywhere now via Dirty Hit. Wallice has also shared that she will be joining St Vincent on select US tour dates early next year.
With The Jester, Wallice proves that she is a rising force ready to make her mark, blending genre lines to create a distinctive sonic landscape that is completely, unabashedly Wallice.
Wallice also shares the captivating album focus track, ‘Flash in the Pan’. A jazzy, melancholic lament, ‘Flash in the Pan’ is a true album standout. The strong horn section combined with a piano and string accomplishment serves as a stunning compliment to Wallice’s vocals as she admits, “I thought I wanted to change your mind, but you were never really mine.”
‘Flash in the Pan’ follows previous album singles ‘Heaven Has To Happen’ and ‘The Opener’ shared with the announcement of the album, as well as ‘Gut Punch Love’, ‘Deadbeat’, and ‘I Want You Yesterday’. ‘Heaven Has To Happen’ is a relatable track about imposter syndrome, while ‘The Opener’ detailed Wallice’s experience touring the world as an opener. Power-pop standout ‘Gut Punch Love’ further proved her storytelling prowess, chronicling the story of Wallice’s mother searching for her missing fiancé in Japan, while ‘Deadbeat’ is an attention-grabbing, violin-driven number. Final single ‘I Want You Yesterday’ proved Wallice’s clever, bold lyricism, wrapped up in sparkling melodies.
These singles allowed listeners an early glimpse into the intimate lyricism, bold instrumentation, and the diverse yet cohesive sonic profile that make The Jester such an impressive debut album. Throughout the rest of the album’s 14 tracks, Wallice explores the push and pull between expectation and actuality, as well as how to navigate and ultimately find peace within the chaos. Though Wallice has been writing songs since she was a preteen playing cello and releasing them for almost as long, her career took shape during the last four years, when a series of singles and EPs suggested her as a new chronicler of early adulthood’s struggles and delights.
