‘Landfall’ references the moment when a storm reaches land after traveling across the water. News outlets traditionally countdown to its arrival, while folks gather supplies and make emergency plans. Finally, it hits… Throughout the last decade, WAGE WAR, the Florida quintet—Briton Bond [vocals], Cody Quistad [vocals, guitar, production], Seth Blake [guitar], Chris Gaylord [bass], and Stephen Kluesener [drums]—have quietly picked up steam, organically accumulated an ardent fanbase, incited tastemaker applause, and clawed their way to the forefront of heavy music and culture, generating over 1 billion streams and selling out headline tours. All of it has just set the stage for their sixth full-length offering, ‘Landfall’, set for release on October 9th through Fearless Records.  Akin to a tropical storm, torrential distortion tosses and turns, screams open the clouds, grooves scar the ground, and hooks clear the way for a disarming calm in the centre of it all. It’s the sound of five friends not only realising their potential, but fulfilling it and leaving a trail of blood, sweat, and tears in their wake. “One of our main goals was to put forth the most identifiable sonic footprint of who we are as a band,” Cody (Quistad) observes. “This record had to stand on its own two legs. We didn’t tie it to anything popular or trendy; we strictly did what we do as Wage War and leaned into it. It’s like we cherry-picked the best parts of every iteration of Wage War and turned them up to 11.” Following on from the recently released ‘IT CALLS ME BY NAME’ EP, which served as an appetiser for ‘Landfall’ by previewing album tracks ‘Blindfold’ and ‘Song Of The Swamp’, the band were on a creative hot streak. They wrote and recorded both projects back-to-back with Cody at the helm as producer for the first time. “I know the DNA to create Wage War songs,” remarks Cody. “From there, we made different choices in the studio, which gave the album its own character.” “We’ve always gone to outside producers,” Chris (Gaylord) continues. “Cody was like,‘I think I got it’. We could really see and hear his progression over the last few records. It was cool to keep it in-house.” Opening the new album with the title track (and new single), it starts off with a foreboding emergency broadcast-style alarm before erupting in a bludgeoning riff. It’s a groove-heavy, guitar-forward anthem that sounds like… vengeance. The hell-bound screams of vocalist Britton Bond are punctuated by Quistad’s melodic singing, making it a gloriously unpredictable listen. Wage War are at their heaviest and most melodic — EVER — with this track, as they continue to push their own boundaries. It’s Wage War, but bigger, stronger, louder, and as impactful as ever. “‘Landfall’ is a song about imminent danger and the realisation that we aren’t in control,” Wage War offer. “Referencing our Florida roots, the hurricane imagery became a way of talking about that feeling of being completely at the mercy of something bigger than yourself.
