VIRGINITY ANNOUNCE UPCOMING ALBUM BAD JAZZ ALBUM OUT ON JUNE 28 VIA SMARTPUNK RECORDS Pre-order the album here Ahead of the album release, the band is also debuting two singles: “Midweekend” and “Swinging South” — listen here. Smartpunk Records sweethearts Virginity are back with their signature self-aware and highly clever brand of indie power punk! They are releasing a new album this summer and are unveiling two new singles from their upcoming full-length release. After achieving great success with their previous album POPMORTEM and receiving acclaim from Audiotree, Brooklyn Vegan, The Alternative, and more, the band is prepared to showcase their long-awaited follow-up album Bad Jazz on June 28. Speaking about the new single “Midweekend,” Virginity vocalist Casey Crawford says, “‘Midweekend’ is about beating myself up for things I said and did a long time ago and how my wife can often find me in the midst of that and lead me out. In a way, it’s a love song, but as with a lot of love songs, I write it coming from a selfish perspective. I love this song. When I first wrote the base of it, I thought it was okay, but after I brought it to the boys and we poured a day of work into it I couldn’t believe how much fun it became.” About “Swinging South,” he adds, “This is another tune basically spelling out the self-awareness I have of my mental health problems and lack of ability to be able to control that stuff in the moment. Again, we find a bit of my wife’s voice in here during the chorus. This is probably the first song I consciously wrote for this record. I had just read Jeff Tweedy’s wonderful book, How to Write One Song, and I employed a few of his methods on this one.” BAD JAZZ TRACK LISTING:

Bubbling up from the swamps of Central Florida, Virginity are an indie/power punk band that really just kinda wants to be Superdrag. Formed in 2018, the band is an attempt to grapple with the existential dread of entering one’s 30s (and 40s) with plenty of baggage. Led by the duo of singer/guitarist Casey Crawford and drummer/producer Jim Dreffen, Virginity quickly found infectious melodies and confident songwriting in steady supply. Joined by bassist Jordan Shroyer and guitarist Chris Pfister, Virginity’s sound embodies the dark humor of the modern world. Their debut LP, 2019’s With Time, crafted more as a therapy session than a record, caught the attention of FEST legends, Dikembe, who eagerly championed the album under their Death Protector label. Wasting no time, the cathartic Death to the Party EP followed in 2020 (Wiretap Records), which spawned the fan favorite “Bad Call.” A third release in as many years, POPMORTEM, (2021 Smartpunk Records) further cemented their reputation for catchy tunes with poignant lyrics and forever looking to subvert expectations. 2024 brings more Virginity to the masses: a new full length record this summer (Smartpunk Records); a second trip to SXSW, the band’s first international dates at Pouzza Fest in Montreal, and a slew of dates around the U.S. |
