September 29, 2023 – Today, Vancouver singer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist alternative pop-psych artist, Old Man Canyon shares his lush, hypnotic, and sparkling new EP So Long Babylon. This new collection of music represents a musical evolution as Jett Pace (Old Man Canyon) makes sense of life with layers of live instrumentation, analog synths, ethereal vocals, with candid lyrics reflecting internal conversations about UFO experiences, the meaning of privilege and a world divided. With an evoking electronic-style approach from traditional instruments while exploring new ways of recording and getting sounds, the EP was recorded with analog equipment, and Jett played every instrument on the EP, at his home studio. To celebrate the exciting release, Jett will perform the songs at the EP release show on November 19th at The Hollywood Theatre in Vancouver, B.C. So Long Babylon was initially introduced with the single “Out of Reach,” followed by “Never Apart” and “What’s Even Real Anymore.” With all single and EP painted originally by Jett, he also paired each video with a stunning and hypnotizing video. “What’s Even Real Anymore” was shot on a 35mm film camera near Kamloops BC, Canada in the Desert Hills of Cache Creek, the video combines both real scenery and computer animation. “Making music and creating art has always been an anchor for me….It’s a way to let go of all my worries and contemplate deeper issues in myself and what’s going on around me. More than ever, that was the case for this music. There was so much uncertainty in everything, but I could still write a song,” shares Jett.
Since emerging in 2012, Old Man Canyon has quietly captivated listeners everywhere. The 2014 Phantoms & Friends EP yielded the breakout title track “Phantoms and Friends,” which amassed 16 million-plus Spotify streams and counting. He maintained momentum with Delirium [2016] and A Grand Facade [2018]. Inciting critical applause, PopMatters described the latter as “taking their knack for wistful arrangements and quivering synths while delving deeper into an electronic sound,” and Paste raved, “The choruses are brilliant.” Along the way, his music has coursed through film and television, appearing in episodes of Bravo’s Suits, ABC’s Pretty Little Liars, FX’s Sons of Anarchy, Showtime’s Shameless, and MTV’s Awkward.
