Northampton business park based post-punk quartet Utopia Development Corporation are set to release the third track from their forthcoming debut EP Industrial Area Swimming Centre – Art Deco Tesco
The most discordant offering the band have ever put to .wav Art Deco Tesco is much more influenced by the band’s love of noise music than previous offerings. Taking heavy inspiration from Northampton bands 72% & No Music, Ireland’s Nakeds Lungs & Chalk and Rhode Island’s Nick Sadler, a riff was devised so discordant it’s ill advised to play the track in polite company.
The song lyrically focuses on the economics of drug usage, 1930’s architecture and corporate takeovers of historic buildings. Recorded using a trifecta of valve amplifiers and rats nest of cables and pedals to create a natural double tracked effect, what you are actually hearing is almost entirely a single guitar, bass, drums & shouting creating what is by far the rawest track on the EP.
As with the other tracks for this ep Art Deco Tesco was recorded at The Lodge Studio in Northampton with engineering and mixing duties falling upon long term collaborator and occasional UDC photographer Rufus Fox and with mastering provided by industry stalwart Stephen Kerrison.
