Tromsø Metal & Prog Fest Returns This November With Dark Quarterer, Black Widows & Dreamslain

The third edition of Tromsø Metal & Prog – Fest will take place during the polar night on the 29th of November 2024, far north of the polar circle in the city of Tromsø, Norway. The festival is proud to present a dynamic line-up consisting of Dark Quarterer, the proud front runners of epic progressive metal; Black Widows, melodic death metal veterans from Portugal; with support from local Tromsø epic progressive metal trio Dreamslain.

Dark Quarterer was founded in 1980 by Gianni Nepi and Paolo Ninci in Piombino, Northern Italy. The current line-up includes singer and bassist Gianni Nepi, drummer Paolo Ninci, guitarist Francesco Sozzi, and keyboardist Francesco Longhi. After a few years as a cover band with another name during the 1970s, Dark Quarterer wanted to find their own musical style. They experimented, and took inspiration from progressive rock, which was big in Italy at the time, but also from arena rock, and metal. Looking for something both heavy and epic, the band spearheaded a new sub genre – Epic Progressive Metal. By doing so, and presenting several phenomenal albums and captivating live shows, Dark Quarterer have earned cult status within the epic metal genre. The band has played at many metal festivals across Europe, and released 8 studio albums so far. Their latest release is Pompei, from 2020.

Black Widows were founded in 1995, and have made history as Portugal’s first metal band with only female members. The band plays gothic metal with both classical vocals and growling, melancholic keyboard melodies, energetic drumming and soaring guitar solos that will set the stage on fire! Black Widows have released several demos, one EP and two full-length albums. Their latest album, Among the Brave Ones, was released in 2022.

Dreamslain incorporate extreme metal elements with classical influences and a progressive twist to perform their own unique interpretation of epic metal. Their dynamic and melodic sound is best experienced in a live setting, where improvised solos by all 3 band members make each show unique. Their 3rd release, Forge Of Rebellion landed in June of this year.
