Today, Japanese trailblazers Heaven In Her Arms announce their fourth album ‘The End of Purification’ and release lead single ‘The Moon That Falls Only Here’ with accompanying music video. A veritable epic, spanning nearly six minutes, the band say the track is “Our response to classic melancholic masterpieces. Contrasting a lush, strikingly beautiful chorus, the middle section plunges into what might be the heaviest, most crushing moment on the record.”
Heaven In Her Arms are one of the defining forces in Japan’s underground heavy-music landscape. Formed in Tokyo and built around the volatile interplay of three guitars, the band have spent nearly two decades making music that refuses easy categories: emotionally unguarded, architecturally expansive and capable of moving from violent abrasion to sudden, disarming beauty within a single song.
The sound of Heaven In Her Arms is rooted in hardcore’s urgency (they were named after a song on Converge’s ‘Jane Doe’ album), but reaches far beyond it. Across their catalogue, Heaven In Her Arms have developed a language of crushing distortion, cinematic tension, shifting dynamics and melodic release music that feels both meticulously constructed and completely exposed. That intensity is magnified on stage, where three guitars, eight speaker cabinets and fiercely physical performances create an overwhelming wall of sound. Their concerts are not simply loud; they are immersive, dramatic and deeply human.
Over the years, Heaven In Her Arms have earned the respect of audiences and peers far beyond Japan. They have shared stages with fellow Japanese trailblazers envy (drummer Rocky also plays with them), MONO and BORIS, and have helped connect the Tokyo underground to the wider world by welcoming artists including Deafheaven, Russian Circles and CELESTE to Japan. Extensive touring in Europe and Asia has made them a vital, singular presence within the international heavy-music community: a band whose influence is felt not through hype, but through endurance, integrity and the force of their work.
Their third album, ‘White Halo’ (2017), proved to be a turning point. Its scope and emotional weight brought Heaven In Her Arms to a much wider international audience, earning widespread critical acclaim including a 7.7 rating from Pitchfork and confirming the band as one of the most compelling voices to emerge from Japan’s heavy underground.
After a period away from new releases, 2026 marks Heaven In Her Arms’ return at precisely the right moment. Their highly anticipated appearance at Roadburn Festival in the Netherlands, where they performed twice, reaffirmed both the potency of their live show and the depth of their connection with a new generation of international listeners.
On 13 November 2026, Heaven In Her Arms release ‘The End of Purification’ via Banshies. It is the record the band have been building towards: their most complete and far-reaching statement yet. Every defining element of Heaven In Her Arms is present in the tension, the violence, the atmosphere and the vulnerability but rendered with a new clarity and purpose. The album does not treat the past as a monument. Instead, it transforms years of experience, silence and perseverance into something immediate and alive.
