“Long admired for the roots influence they combine with a wide experimental streak and exemplary musicianship.” – Rolling Stone

“Their music is unique and instantly identifiable, high praise indeed for brothers that have seemingly become tighter and more focused as their professional liaison has matured.” – American Songwriter

“The Wood Brothers put their hearts into their craft, and listeners’ hearts can’t help but resonate as they respond to it.” – No Depression

The Wood Brothers have shared “Pray God Listens” (listen/watch/share), the second single (and its official lyric video) to be released in advance of the band’s forthcoming album, Puff Of Smoke, due August 1 on Honey Jar Records/Thirty Tigers. The song is a tongue-in-cheek observation on the concept of “God” that’s built upon a buoyant Cachito/Cuban-inspired groove.

Oliver Wood explains: “‘Pray God Listens,’ is a bit humorous and cynical, but ultimately it’s a song of compassion and humility. It’s meant to be light, but it’s ambiguous enough that you can draw your own conclusion. You can take the cynicism part and the humor, or you can go a little deeper and find the compassion.”

One year shy of their 20th anniversary, The Wood Brothers—the Grammy Award-nominated trio comprised by brothers Oliver and Chris Wood and Jano Rix—continue to evolve via a pure and relentless creative spirit. Through the near two decades spent together in the studio and on the road, the band has honed their interconnected, singular voice to telepathic proportions. On Puff Of Smoke, their ninth studio album to date, the songs weave a medley of musical ideas — ranging from Latin-inflected acoustic guitar lines, to driving post-jazz rhythms, to infectious sing-along choruses — resulting in a cohesive, joyful whole. All with The Wood Brothers’ trademark turns of phrase and lighthearted, but subversively profound wisdom at the core.

In the lead-up to the release of Puff Of Smoke, The Wood Brothers—ever the fearless road warriors—are on tour criss-crossing the US. In June and July, they’ll co-headline 15 shows with St. Paul & The Broken Bones, hitting Colorado, Northern California, the Northwest, and the Midwest. Additional festival and headline dates are scheduled throughout the summer.
