Tuesday, June 13th, 2023 – Portuguese deathcore masters, The Voynich Code, have unleashed brand new single ‘The Last Grain’ today. The track is the band’s second release since announcing their signing to Unique Leader Records and dropping the crushing single ‘Unholy Catastrophe’ in April this year. Combining elements of technical death metal, progressive metal and deathcore, The Voynich Code are pushing genre limits to create a sound that blends technical proficiency and emotional depth with heavy guitar riffs, groovy drums and dramatic keyboards and is as unique as it is brutal.

“The Last Grain” dives into the detrimental habit of fixating on the past, wasting valuable seconds of our lives. The past is something that gets a hold of us really tight of the present, losing sight of any joy the future may hold.

For many of us, the weight of the past is only released when the last grain of the hourglass drops. It is in that moment that we understand that our whole existence is now just that: “the past”. By constantly looking back, we have wasted a lifetime, subjecting ourselves to needless suffering over something beyond our control.

The past is the past, it’s gone. The moment is now, or never.”

ABOUT THE VOYNICH CODE

Hailing from the sunny city of Lisbon, Portugal, The Voynich Code are one of the most exciting and innovative European bands in the genre. They burst onto the scene in 2014 with their break-out, debut single ‘Antithesis’ and have since released two EPs – 2015’s ‘Ignotum’ and 2021’s ‘Post Mortem’ and one full-length album, 2017’s ‘Aqua Vitae’.

The three releases garnered the band much critical acclaim, with fans and press alike drawing favorable comparisons to deathcore legends, Thy Art Is Murder. Over the course of the last 9 years, the band have continued to push genre limits and creating a more expansive, multi-dimensional death metal sound exhibited by the ‘Post Mortem’ EP which is widely regarded as the band’s darkest and most technical collection to date.

The Voynich Code have toured extensively throughout Europe and Asia, performing at prestigious festivals like UK Tech Fest and Resurrection Fest and supporting acts like The Faceless on their 2018 album release tour. To date, the band have over 1,000,000 streams and 850,000 YouTube views across releases.

The band announced their signing to globally renowned extreme metal label, Unique Leader Records, in April of 2023 and dropped new single ‘Unholy Catastrophe‘, heralding a new era. The band are currently working on their highly anticipated sophomore album which will be released later this year.
