Today, UK noir pop outfit The Nightmares have unveiled their new single and video “From Above”. The track and video are appropriately fitting for spooky season, detailing the love story between a human and a vampire. Lush vocals and shimmering guitars give way to an emo-alternative meets darkwave approach, creating a sound that lies somewhere between acts like AFI and Depeche Mode. The release of the song comes alongside the announcement of the band signing with Equal Vision Records and Venn Records (UK/EU). Speaking on the story behind “From Above”, the band elaborate: “On the surface, ‘From Above’ is a song about a human that falls in love with a vampire. And despite the inevitable pain, they want nothing more than to be bitten in a quest for eternal love. But dig a little deeper, and it’s a song about wanting to find a genuine connection in life… at any cost. A song about ignoring the opinion of others and following your heart.”
Forming in 2018, The Nightmares are as inspired by shared musical passions – The Cure, Placebo, Interpol – as they are by the art of seances. The band released their debut EP in 2019, with single “Adore” gaining notoriety in the UK and beyond. Having already played tours and supported acts like Holding Absence, Tiger Army and Salem, the band have been able to create a haunting and memorable live show. Centered around recurring themes of death, love and mourning, The Nightmares are currently working on material for a new album set for release in 2023. The Nightmares is Adam Parslow (Lead Vocals, Guitar), Eleanor Coburn (Keys, Vocals), Benjamin T. Mainwaring (Bass), and James Mattock (Drums, Backing Vocals). |
