MAJOR EUROPEAN TOUR AS GUESTS TO BASTILLE CONFIRMED FOR NOVEMBER
““The Native are exceeding the high bar set for them.” – Gigwise
“Stellar songwriting with a fresh appeal, The Native’s work has transformed them into one of the country’s most sought after new groups.”– Clash
“An indie band for the modern ages, The Native are your up and comers with an edge.” – Earmilk
August proved to be another stellar leap forward for The Native. They smashed their debut sets at the Reading and Leeds Festivals (just three years after attending Reading after leaving school), released their new EP ‘Looking Back’ on This Feeling Records, and provided a fiery wake-up call with a performance on Soccer AM.
The Plymouth quintet keep that intensity up by starting September with a double shot of activity. Today they share the new video for the EP’s title track and also announce details of a major European tour as guests to Bastille.
The ‘Looking Back’ video takes us to the stunning natural beauty of the Devon coast. The band put in their trademark impassioned performance on top of a cliff, which is cut with footage of them taking a boat into the bay. As the song reaches its rousing finale, the band embrace the song’s message – don’t be afraid to take a chance and live in the moment – by diving into the sea. The video was directed by their regular collaborator, frontman Charlie Noordewier’s brother William, and its visual flair is heightened by some underwater videography.
The ‘Looking Back’ EP bursts with live energy, effervescent melodies, colossal hooks as it freewheels between elements of alternative, indie, rock and pop. Its songs are thematically linked, with explorations of the doubts and insecurities that come with young adulthood, but ultimately optimism is the prevailing mood. What feels insurmountable now will one day be an obstacle that you have overcome.
The entire EP was produced by John Cornfield (Oasis, Muse, The Stone Roses) and mixed by the Grammy Award-winning Adrian Bushby(Foo Fighters, Muse, Everything Everything) then provided mixing.
The confirmation of the Bastille tour continues their long-term support of The Native. One of the band’s very first gigs came when they supported Bastille at a huge MTV show in Plymouth, and they reunited for a UK arena tour this year which included The O2 in London and saw Bastille’s Dan Smith wearing The Native’s t-shirt design. As well as the European dates with Bastille, The Native conclude their summer festival adventures at the Little Orchard Cider & Music Festival before hitting Live At Leeds next month.
