The Home Team, a dynamic Seattle-based quartet made up of Brian Butcher (vocals), John Baran (guitar), Ryne Olson (bass), and Daniel Matson (drums), came together through a series of perfect timings and genuine connection. Established in 2013 by Baran and Matson after their time in metal bands, The Home Team draws their roots from traditional pop-punk and metal while weaving in elements of R&B, pop, and funk, they’ve created what they call “heavy pop”– a sound that’s entirely their own. Butcher joined in 2015, becoming the perfect fit due to his long-time admiration for the band and his status as their first EP’s original purchaser. Olson rounded out the lineup in 2019 after connecting with the band on tour, and the chemistry was undeniable.
What started as four friends making music together has grown into something much bigger, but they’ve never lost sight of what drew them together in the first place: creating authentic music that connects with people. Their commitment to staying true to themselves has earned them a devoted fanbase who recognize the real deal when they hear it. The band has performed alongside major acts like Don Broco, State Champs, Real Friends, The Used, and Dance Gavin Dance, building their reputation as a formidable live act through electrifying performances that transform venues into massive dance floors where standing still simply isn’t an option.
The Home Team’s discography showcases their evolving sound, with albums including Better Off and Slow Bloom demonstrating their artistic growth. Their album The Crucible Of Life stands as a testament to their resilience and creative evolution. “This album is aptly named after how it felt to create it,” says Brian Butcher. “Before Slow Bloom, it had been such a grind for us to get to that point that we felt as though the world was hardening us, only to realize that once we were able to make music our career and meet our goals, that intensity basically just doubled.” The deluxe edition of The Crucible Of Life further expands on this pivotal chapter in their catalog, offering fans an enhanced exploration of the band’s creative journey.
The Home Team shows no signs of slowing down, with their upcoming U.S. headliner, shows across Japan, performances at Warped Tour dates in Long Beach, CA and Orlando, FL, and an Australian tour with Mayday Parade. It’s this relentless drive and genre-defying approach that keeps them at the forefront of the heavy pop movement.
