Currently playing storming shows to sold-out venues across the land, The Enemy’s resurgence continues to gather traction as they announce that they will release their new album ‘Social Disguises’ on February 20th. It will be their first album since 2015’s ‘It’s Automatic’ as the trio embark upon a new chapter. Their accomplishments the first time around were phenomenal: a Platinum-certified #1 debut album followed by two more two Top 10 records; two Top 10 singles and another pair that hit the Top 20; shows with the likes of Oasis and The Rolling Stones; and an NME Award.
Since reuniting in 2022 with their original line-up – Tom Clarke (vocals/guitar), Andy Hopkins (bass) and Liam Watts (drums) – The Enemy have played numerous sold-out shows, select festivals, and the Indie Til I Die tour with The Subways and The Holloways. All the while they were working on a new record, one which could capture the energy, passion and boyish enthusiasm that made their debut, ‘We Live And Die In These Towns’, so successful. But in the intervening years, their songwriting has grown in accomplishment and they’ve learned the hard way about how to navigate some of the industry’s many pitfalls.
The record was produced by Matt Terry, who they worked with for the fan favourite ‘40 Days and 40 Nights’ and the Top 20 hit ‘No Time For Tears’.
Tom Clarke says, “We tried to make this album in the same frame of mind that we made our first, as though we were making the follow-up to it. It took a year to write, around 90 demos, and another year in the studio. I’m very proud of it. We all are. Whatever success it does or doesn’t enjoy I feel like we all succeeded in making a great record we can be proud of forever.”
The first taste of the new album arrives next Friday with the single ‘Not Going Your Way’, which lives up to Tom’s enthusiasm. Simply, if you were a fan of ‘Away From Here’ or ‘We’ll Live And Die In These Towns’, ‘Not Going Your Way’ is exactly what you want The Enemy to be in 2025, complete with a fresh spark of inspiration.
Elsewhere, the record sparkles with the band’s relatable, everyman lyricism but with Tom exploring new ideas from the perspective of recent life experience as well as some fictional narratives. Its topics include his struggles with being diagnosed with autism as an adult; the regrets and anxieties that can hold us back from fulfilling our potential; miscommunication in relationships; seeing culture change so quickly you feel as if you’re being left behind.
‘Social Disguises’ is now available to pre-order HERE. The band’s official store offers a range of exclusive formats including a signed, extended 20-track vinyl, an orange vinyl, a cassette and very limited signed and numbered test pressings. The range is completed by standard CD, standard black vinyl, and a deluxe CD with four bonus tracks.
The Enemy’s current headline tour culminates with two homecoming shows at Coventry’s HMV Empire next month. All shows are sold-out except for Liverpool and Edinburgh, very limited tickets for which are available HERE. Their plans take them through to the end of 2026, with a run as very special guests on Ocean Colour Scene’s huge autumn tour, which calls at some of the biggest UK arenas including The O2 in London, Manchester’s AO Arena and Glasgow’s OVO Hydro.
