The Dust Coda have released the new single ‘Fairweather Love’, which is taken from their forthcoming album Loco Paradise and is coming out July 7th on Earache Records. Pre-order the album here.
Soundtracked by pulsing rhythms and soaring vocals reminiscent of Soundgarden, the song is an ode to taking life one moment at a time and celebrating love in all its glory whilst acknowledging nothing lasts forever.
Frontman John Drake comments, “A toxic twisted romance: no future, no past, just the ever-present, day-to-day, no expectation. When it’s good, it’s wild and bad ass, but when it’s down, the quicksand takes a hold and you get swallowed up in the ocean of loneliness, all the while next to someone you thought you could trust.”
Coming just as the nation received its first emergency alert test, the video sees the band performing in the Kelvedon Hatch Secret Nuclear Bunker. The dystopian themes echo the narrative and the sentiment of trying to break free but not leaving anyone behind, celebrating unity and compassion for one another in a troubled world.
Despite the serious meaning behind the track, the filming was an entertaining process and was directed by David Gregory with Ian Coulson as director of photography. The band add, “Who wouldn’t want to shoot a video in an underground nuclear bunker? It was loads of fun, there were so many tunnels in the place that we got lost trying to find the set. It was like Spinal Tap meets Dad’s Army!”
‘Fairweather Love’ is the second taste of new music from the new album and follows the hard-hitting ‘Road To Hell’ – watch the video here.
The new music stands as a real statement of intent from what’s to come from the London based rockers, whose raw energy and fire is equally matched to their stellar songwriting across the album’s 11 tracks.
Recorded during the hazy summer heat of 2022, Loco Paradise saw the band take residence together at the divinely picturesque Chapel Studios in Lincolnshire, with producer Charlie Russell (Kasabian, Jamiroquai, Wargasm) at the helm. Just as the album cover itself (which features a striking depiction of a winged, crazed eyeball clutching a lightning bolt in its talons) is intended as a piece of art for fans to get lost in, the album is also an experience of immersion.
Guitarist Adam Mackie says, “This album really captures the band at the top of its game. We locked ourselves away in the studio together for a week to live and breathe the creation of ‘Loco Paradise’. Just six people constantly feeding off each other 24 hours a day for 7 days to give life to these songs and elevate them to a place beyond our expectations. The result is a 54-minute testimony of pure, organic rock’n’roll music.”
The new album follows the release of 2021’s Mojo Skyline, which landed them a UK Top 30 spot and saw Classic Rock Magazine selecting the band’s brass-infused track ‘Jimmy 2 Times’ as part of their 300th landmark issue’s ‘The Soundtrack Of Our Lifetime’ list, alongside legends such as Slash, AC/DC and Deep Purple.
Taking inspiration from the turmoil the world is throwing at us, the album serves as a souvenir of darker times but, more importantly, a mantra for hope. Drake comments, “This record for me is a snapshot of the world in pure chaos: a meditation on isolation and conflict, heartbreak and dystopia – but with a little faith in humanity thrown in for good measure, also. It’s full of emotion, chaos, joy, mistakes, beauty, love, death and everything in between.”
With songs that will sound at home in a stadium as they would a club, The Dust Coda have captured the pure essence and utter joy of being in a rock’n’roll band with Loco Paradise.
The band have also recently announced a UK headline tour this October, which will culminate with a show at London’s Dingwalls. Tickets are available here.
