Kicking off with a jazzy, harmonic introduction before launching into the melody with a punchy “I’ll do it tomorrow!,” “I’d Rather Die” is a minimalist offering that showcases the duo’s sonic versatility. The track spotlights on Ross and Rocky’s layered vocals backed with just a steady drum beat and a trickling piano riff. The minimalist production allows the reflective lyrics to be at the forefront, as they lament, “I try my best to be good, but I live for the night.”

“It’s the same kind of concept where we’re tackling the concept of obsession and habits and basically just saying, ‘I know these things are killing me but like I’m not quite ready to give them up so I’ll do it tomorrow,’” shares Ross about the track. Rocky adds, “There’s a bit of that loop, there’s a bit of that same old story we’re referencing too where everyone has their own loop that they probably can climb out of by doing it today instead of tomorrow.”

The band, which consists of brothers Ross and Rocky Lynch, aren’t new to the industry by any means. With their signature sound and larger-than-life live show, THE DRIVER ERA has also been praised by the likes of Rolling Stone, PAPER, MTV, and many others. Their studio albums are only one half of what makes THE DRIVER ERA special. From their beginnings as members of the band R5, the duo are veterans when it comes to touring. Known for creating a live show that doubles as a party, the band has sold out shows across the globe — reaching everywhere from Asia to the U.S. to Europe and South America (and everywhere else in between). In addition to being a dynamic and talented musician, Ross is also an acclaimed actor, starring in Netflix’s ‘Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’, the biopic ‘My Friend Dahmer’ and more. He was also featured in the viral music video for Troye Sivan’s, “One Of Your Girls.”

Upcoming album, Obsession is THE DRIVER ERA’s explosive follow up to 2022’s Summer Mixtape and sees the band’s artistry evolving in a dynamic, distinctive direction. Clever, relatable lyricism backed by moody undertones and infectious grooves showcases the band’s pivot into more confessional songwriting and finding their sonic step. Across the album’s 11 tracks, Obsession explores themes of love, longing, and loss through a uniquely captivating sonic profile rife with electric riffs, robust synths, and strong drums to create the most impressive release from THE DRIVER ERA to date.

“The Obsession era began sometime last year when we started to compile a lot of these songs on a note in our phones…We started to collect all these songs and more that we were really loving and named the folder ‘Obsession.’ It was the truth of the situation – we were literally obsessed making these songs and just spent hours and hours with lots of love poured into them,” shares the band. “‘Obsession’ is our entanglement with searching for love and trying to not fall too deep into these bad habits.”

“I’d Rather Die” is the latest offering from Obsession, following prior earworm “Same Old Story,”and  the fiery “Touch,” as well as “Don’t Walk Away,” detailing a whirlwind romance and the catchy “You Keep Me Up At Night.” THE DRIVER ERA have cemented their status as a dominant force in the alt-pop genre, with over 400 million global streams, 58 million YouTube views, and 28 million combined social media followers.

While the band is thrilled about their new album making its way into homes around the globe, the true mark of the music’s impact will be on stage, where Rocky and Ross have made a name for themselves thanks to their electrifying live show. Tonight, the duo will conclude the first North American leg of their highly anticipated The Driver Era: Obsession Tour, produced by Live Nation, in Garden City, ID. The second leg of the massive 40+ city tour kicks off on May 30th in Milwaukee, hitting major markets including Toronto, Boston, New York City, Nashville, and more before a final stop in Los Angeles, CA, at the Hollywood Palladium on July 18.
