The Dirty Skirts release long-awaited new single Doomsday Clock
After a prolonged absence that left fans eagerly waiting for their return, indie rockers The Dirty Skirts are back in action and ready to shake up the music scene once again. The band is thrilled to announce the release of their brand new single, titled Doomsday Clock, marking a triumphant comeback after their long hiatus. The track is taken from their upcoming ep Radiant Clouds, set for release on the 7th July 2023 via Just Music.
Known for their infectious energy, raw talent, and distinctive sound, The Dirty Skirts captured the hearts of music lovers with their previous hits such as Daddy Don’t Disco and Home Wrecker. The band’s unique blend of angular guitar riffs, captivating melodies, danceable grooves, and introspective lyrics resonated deeply with fans, making them a force to be reckoned with in the indie rock landscape.
Doomsday Clock is a testament to the band’s growth and evolution during their time away from the spotlight. Embracing their signature sound while exploring new musical territories, The Dirty Skirts delivers a powerful and anthemic track that is sure to captivate both longtime fans and new listeners alike. With its infectious hooks and thought-provoking lyrics, the single showcases the band’s maturity and artistic prowess.
“The song juxtaposes a lot of things. On the one hand, the Doomsday Clock ticks ever closer toward midnight, the time of our catastrophic end as a species. There’s a sense of anxiety and impending disaster in the song. And so, the verses explore the possibility of us rising up and doing something. How to start, where to begin? It’s hard to start the revolution in your pyjamas! Many Dirty Skirts songs over the years have explored our collective and individual frozen numbness, our passivity in the face of self-destruction. So, the song invites us to ‘embrace the sweatpants life” while somehow rebelling despite our overwhelming helplessness. The end of each verse finishes with more juxtaposition… walking out into an autumn garden in the morning, inhaling cold air with pale dawn light, where is the problem now?” – Jeremy de Tolly, vocalist.
The Dirty Skirts continue as their original line up – Jeremy de Tolly on vocals and guitar, David Moffatt on guitar, Maurice Paliaga on bass, and Mark De Menezes on drums.
The bands career highlights include being nominated for the Best Rock Album (SAMA) for their album ‘Daddy Don’t Disco’ and winning the Best Alternative Album (SAMA) for their album ‘Lost in the Fall’. They were first an independent act, then signed to labels Sony Music and Sheer. The band shared stages with notable international artists including Oasis, Snow Patrol, Evanescence, Three Doors Down, Billy Talent and Staind. They toured the UK and USA, including playing the SXSW festival in Texas. The Dirty Skirts headlined main stages at many South African festivals including Oppikoppi, Rocking the Daisies, Ramfest, Up the Creek, Splashy Fen, The Coca-Cola Festival, Kirstenbosch Summer Concerts and Seeding the Daisies. The Dirty Skirts will bring their high-octane live performances to South Africa in 2023.
