The Dear Hunter have dropped a music video so clearly unique that it’s impossible to look away. The video, “Ring 3 – Luxury” was created/directed by vocalist, Casey Crescenzo and is part of his Sci-Fi fantasy Short Film The Indigo Child “Cycle 8”.
In the video, viewers are transported into another universe, watching a meeting of a group of “Guides”- a class of people who answer only to their God Emperor. While there are distinctions within the greater group of Guides, this collection in particular operates like a typical senate, with representatives from every corner of Antimai. While they could easily focus their attention on affecting the lives of the downtrodden and systemically oppressed, they stick to self-congratulatory efforts, funneling resources to those already benefiting from the system, and damning anyone who challenges their way of life, or speaks ill of power.
Casey Crescenzo shares “When I first designed the Guides for “Cycle 8”, I had a lot more planned for their purpose in this project, and was waiting for an opportunity to show them off a bit more. This track was always meant to showcase the upper class in the fictional city of “Antimai”. I hadn’t thought of animating a video like this, but after some small tests here and there, this felt like a reasonable project to complete on my own.” He continues on by saying “The Indigo Child is a project that includes whatever I can throw at it. So far, that is 1 short film, 1 album, and now, 1 music video. There is a narrative I would love to tell, centering around a character I haven’t introduced yet, but this concept offers a lot to sink our teeth into from an allegorical perspective. Only time will tell what opportunities we find.”
Antimai is a fantastical reflection of a modern western nation, boiled down into the fictional world’s last city. Antimai is composed of 8 “Rings”, divided by city walls with increasing industrialization the further you get to the walls of Ring 7. Ring 8 refers to everything beyond that 7th wall, as Ring 8 exists without protection, though it’s often referring to the millions of people who have clung in close proximity to the city walls, hoping their children might be able to broach the walls and ascend through the castes through marriage, or labor.
