The Clause in the ‘Tell Me What You Want’ video
The Clause have been bombing around the festival circuit, inspiring main stage mania and seeing huge crowds spilling out of tents at events spanning The Isle Wight to TruckTramlines, the Rock ‘n’ Roll Circus and many more. In tandem, their new tunes have been exceeding their long-shown potential with ‘Nothing’s As It Seems’ and ‘Elisha’ sending their anthemic indie-rock power into overdrive. Now they continue to push ahead to the October 24th release of their long-awaited debut album ‘Victim of a Casual Thing’ by sharing the new single ‘Tell Me What You Want’.
If you think you’ve come to know what to expect from The Clause from their previous two singles, think again. ‘Tell Me What You Want’ goes harder: guitars which dart from chunky riffs into disco-tinged sparkles and tightly syncopated grooves without losing sight of their love of a mammoth hook. Coming across like a next gen answer to Foals or Bloc Party, it also shows frontman Pearce Macca’s versatility as he swerves between a full-blooded holler and a suave falsetto. Check that ending too: a rampaging finale guaranteed to detonate the moshpit at future live shows.
Pearce says, “The outro riff is a bit out there and it goes half-time at the end. I was like, are we allowed to do that? Is it a bit too much? And then we just thought, fuck it, it’s gonna go off live! As a band some of our biggest influences are Kasabian and Foals, and we’ve taken the song down that route.”
The accompanying video for the track puts a playful spin on the song’s theme. The boys are busy running their ‘Victim of a Casual Thing’ hotline, dishing out dubious advice to lonely and lovelorn callers. But when Jonny Fyffe is sent out onto the streets of Birmingham to undertake some DIY promotion, they’re suddenly swamped with more calls than they could possibly manage.
The video was directed by Morgan Tedd, who shot it with Luke Jones. It was produced by The Alternative Studio Ltd.
As with the rest of the upcoming album, ‘Tell Me What You Want’ was written by The Clause and produced by Matt Terry at VADA Studios. The band was formed by three school friends – Pearce Macca (vocals/guitar), Jonny Fyffe (bass) and Niall Fennell (drums) – when they were just 16-years old, with Liam Deakin (guitar) soon joining after they met him at a JAWS gig.

‘Tell Me What You Want’, ‘Elisa’ and ‘Nothing’s At It Seems’ all feature on the 12-track ‘Victim of a Casual Thing’, which This Feeling has hailed as a “masterpiece incoming.” The album is available to pre-order HERE. A limited edition white vinyl quickly sold-out, but black vinyl, gold vinyl, CD and cassette formats are all available alongside a selection of album bundles.
Next up for The Clause is a special album launch at Birmingham’s Hare and Hounds followed by run of in-stores and signing sessions (tickets HERE), followed by the start of their almost sold-out UK headline tour. It culminates with their biggest headline show so far at the 3000-capacity O2 Academy Birmingham. Limited tickets for the tour are available HERE. The band have proven their exhilarating live experience following major events such as Radio 1’s Big Weekend and gigs with Lottery WinnersCourteneersThe ReytonsDMA’S and The Snuts.
