Ahead of their first live dates in the UK this May, Australian punk rock stars Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers today share their brand new single ‘Lights Out’. A hard-hitting anthem all about claiming your sexuality and confidence, it’s the first cut taken from their to-be-announced debut album due out this year on Domestic La La. ‘Lights Out’ is available to stream everywhere now – listen here. On ‘Lights Out’, Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers share, “Lights Out is a celebration of realising you’re hot and can empower yourself. The years between the ages of 18 and 22 are some of the most developmental years of a person’s life, and Lights Out describes these years. It’s all about claiming your sexuality, confidence and not caring about what the drunk strangers in a Canberra nightclub will think of you.” A confident message and a true punk rock anthem to boot – it hits all the markers: heavy riffs, bleeding drum lines and of course a call-and-response, over its sub-three minutes of power. Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers are set to bring their high octane live presence to the UK for the first time this May. The band will be performing at The Great Escape in Brighton and they’ve also just announced a pair of headline shows in London to bookend the festival. Full details below. Formed during high school in their hometown of Canberra in 2019, Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers – Anna Ryan (vocals/guitar), Scarlett McKahey (guitar/vocals), Jaida Stephenson (bass) and Neve van Boxsel (drums) – channel Riot Grrrl-era energy with a 2023 spin and are the most natural, confident and damn likeable punk-rockers you’ll meet. Now based across Dharawal Country/Wollongong, Ngunnawal/Canberra, and Naarm/Melbourne, the band have graduated into an astute group of early twenty-somethings – just as concerned about issues facing today’s women, non-binary people and young people everywhere as they are with their loud and completely cool punk rock sound. On their debut EP ‘Pretty Good For A Girl Band’, Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers proclaimed that they are a true force to be reckoned with and aren’t here to mess around. Their most recent single ‘Girl Sports’ hit #55 on the triple j Hottest 100, and the band played a string of Australian festivals following their sell-out national EP headline tour last spring.
