The latest preview of Poster Child Deluxe, due 23rd October via Fearless Records, finds Acorn looking back at the uncertainty she felt at 13 and recognising pieces of that same kid in herself today. “Thought I’d be happy in my own skin by now,” she admits, before arriving at the song’s painful truth: maybe we’re never really too old for growing pains. Melancholy and introspective, the track feels both fresh and familiar. Understated production gives Acorn’s vocals and storytelling room to take centre stage, while a steady pulse underneath heightens the emotion. Her vocal moves between quiet vulnerability and aching intensity, capturing the fear of being judged, feeling uncomfortable in your own skin, and wondering why everyone else seems to have figured out something you haven’t. Acorn has spoken candidly throughout her career about mental health and the harder realities behind the music, making “Growing Pains” feel especially personal. Rather than offering easy answers, the song finds comfort in admitting that healing isn’t linear, adulthood doesn’t come with a roadmap, and struggling with something you thought you’d left behind doesn’t mean you haven’t grown. “Growing Pains is a favourite of mine. I think it’s such a universal feeling to want to grow up and grow out of the feelings we feel when we are young. I remember thinking to myself ‘Man, I can’t wait to be an adult and never have to feel like this,” whenever it came to loss, the way I saw myself in the mirror, relationships, school, and so on—but oh boy was I so wrong,” shares Taylor. “I love my life and I feel so grateful for where I stand NOW, but it has been so far from a walk in the park. Life is hard. The older you get, the shorter the days are, the less time you have, and I feel like I’ve extended myself in so many ways for so many years it feels impossible sometimes to keep my head above water and having to be so present online can feel so dehumanising. I am human though; we all are, we all have bad days and struggle, and I think that’s a beautiful thing. That’s especially true for Taylor Acorn, who has made bold sacrifices in order to pursue her musical dreams. Acorn became interested in performing as a teenager living in Northern Pennsylvania where she started her first band and began performing as a solo artist. However her career breakthrough came when she relocated to Nashville in 2014 and connected with producer Dan Swank (All Time Low, Cassadee Pope) and the duo instantly bonded over their mutual love of early 2000s music. If Acorn’s 2024 full-length Survival In Motion was her introduction to the world, 2025’s Poster Child shows that she is here to stay—and it also marks the fact that she has signed with Fearless Records after nine years of releasing her music independently. “When people listen to this album I just want them to feel like they’re back in a time period that makes them feel good,” she says. That sense of optimism is evident from the infectious opener “People Pleaser” to the stripped-down outro of the album closer “Masquerade,” the latter of which showcases the way Acorn is able to effortlessly express both power and vulnerability with her voice, depending on the feeling that she is trying to articulate in the moment.
