“Swim School might just be the ideal guitar band” NME
“Few bands are stepping as firmly on the accelerator as swim school.. a sound that will be inescapable in just a matter of time.” Dork Magazine
“there should be no doubt how fantastic swim school are as a band” Sian Ellery BBC Radio 1
“We played our last show of 2024 in Leeds on a Saturday, drove back to Edinburgh on Sunday and were in the studio recording new songs on Monday. We were so excited about these new songs we didn’t want to hang around” say swim school of their new single HEAVEN, released Jan 22nd on LAB Records.
Addressing the universally human trait of craving that which is bad for you, HEAVEN marks a new phase for swim school. Opening with a dirty, heavy riff and with a thundering festival-destined chorus and once again produced by Iain Berryman (Wolf Alice, Beebadoobee, Young Fathers) it’s the perfect smoke signal for what’s to come. “We spent so much time on the road last year we felt more locked in as a band than ever before and we wanted the new songs to reflect that. We played live in the studio, used less pedals and effects and more guitars and amps. Recording felt a lot like performing and we absolutely thrive on that.”
The band’s stellar 2024 (a sold out headline tour, festivals across the UK and Europe, supporting Pale Waves and Paulo Nutini) hasn’t gone unnoticed. Named Tickmaster’s 2025 Breakthrough artists swim school are already looking forward to some landmark performances ahead of their debut album later this year.
“Playing live is EVERYTHING for us” says drummer Billy McMahon. “We had so many incredible moments last year – playing the Radio 1 stage at Reading and looking out over a packed tent was something we’ll never forget and hearing fans sing back at us at Mad Cool in Madrid was so unexpected as it was the first time we’d played in Spain”
They kick off the new year with a sold out intimate gig at London’s iconic 100 Club for DORK Magazine on Jan 23rd where fans will get new music, new energy and new set up for what will be the hot and sweaty start to 2025 the band want.
