Stone Blind State Release Grunge Punk Single ‘Electric Lady’ Ahead of New Album (Irish Grunge/Rock)

Stone Blind State return with their foundation-shaking new single ‘Electric Lady’. Following on from their 2024 single ‘There She Goes’ which saw the band re-introduce themselves to the Irish scene and in doing so caught the sharpened ears of Hot Press, Pure M Zine, The Beat.ie and The Sounds Won’t Stop amongst others. The band amp the distortion and intensity on their grunge-punk new single. Echoes of Stone Temple Pilots and Alice In Chains can be heard on ‘Electric Lady’, clocking in at under 3 minutes there is absolutely no time wasted in getting their point across. Already showing a range to their sound this single also announces the release of their self-titled debut album out February 26th. The band have captured the energy of the track in the accompanying music video, shot in a basement and punctuated by strobes (flash warning) it’s a head down assault as the band tear through the new track.
Stone Blind State began in 2019 with Mick as the founding member, releasing the successful EP ‘Alive’ the same year, but lineup changes and the pandemic forced the band into hiatus. It wasn’t until Mick approached Martin with a handful of songs that the band sparked back to life again. New single ‘Electric Lady’ leans into the band’s grunge and punk influences which are in stark contrast to the bluesy classic rock sound heard on ‘There She Goes’. Adding drums to this track is Cry Before Dawn’s tub thumper Brendan Carthy.
Born out of a practice room jam, the band let the energy of track dictate the course it took. Coming out of the gate swinging we’re hit with a barrage of crunchy guitars, wah-wah leads and machine gun drum fills. The syncopated guitar and vocals add an instant hook in the verses, with distortion pedals dimed to 11 and wailing lead guitars the song oozes attitude. The chorus hits and brings a STP swagger to proceedings as Martin calls out ‘Electric Lady’. A blistering solo from Mick follows, as Brendan’s drums propel the song forward. As they track come hurtling towards its end, there’s some Slash by the way of Velvet Revolver wah guitar work that add an unhinged energy to the final bars.
When it came time to record the song, they decamped to The Orchard Recording Studio in Enniscorthy Co. Wexford. With Brendan at the helm for production duties as well as laying down drums for the track. The video was shot by with Zena O’Brien (Z Visuals) an old stone stable on a farm. The band packed the space with as many lights, smoke machines and pyrotechnics as they could possibly fit in. An in your face and explosive video that captures the energy of the track.
‘Electric Lady’ showcases another side to the band ahead of the release of their album. A blistering track that demands to be listened to at full volume.
