Stoke’s Underclass Return With Anthemic New Single ‘Hometown’
The Underclass – ‘Hometown’
(Released July 22nd 2022)
Harbouring a sound that feels both classic and contemporary, Stoke five-piece The Underclass channel a long history of indie royalty, creating something that feels cathartic, optimistic, and perhaps most importantly, vital.
Having already turned heads across the Midlands and further afield thanks to a smattering of single releases including last year’s well received single ‘The One’, it’s the clear the band are making all the right moves, with sell out shows at venues such as The Cavern Club and O2 Leicester testament to the fact.
Not a band to rest on their laurels however, The Underclass have their sights set on a big future, and forthcoming single ‘Hometown’ is the next stepping stone on their path forward. Three and a half minutes of hugely anthemic indie rock, there’s echoes of bands such as The Twang or The Enemy, yet it never feels derivative. Instead the five-piece have carved their own niche into the landscape of modern indie rock.
“Hometown is a song heavily based around our roots. It tells the story of going back to where you’re from, what made you, who you are and how you should never forget your roots” the band explain. “Many have described the tune as a people’s anthem. Which for us is probably the best way to describe this song with its meaningful lyrics, huge guitars and groove filled bass and drums.”
Indeed, as far as indie anthems go, The Underclass have nailed it with ‘Hometown’ – a blistering made-for-radio banger that feels like the band’s next step on their path to being household names.
