Stand Atlantic // Honey Revenge // Slowly Slowly // Project House // Leeds (13th September 2024)
The working week has ended and now we can finally relax. Stick on some tunes. Take a breather. Have a bath. Pop on your concert wear and head back out again, because doors are gonna be opening soon. Stand Atlantic have graced the UK once more with the presence, and this time with a headline tour.
Slowly Slowly are the opener for Stand Atlantic on this tour. The Australian band gave a shout out to the headliner, recalling how they first met on tour last year and the band wanted to bring them overseas. Gotta love when a larger band take a smaller band under their wing. The band has this cozy rock sound about them. Nothing heavy. Nothing too in your face. The type of songs you’d put on during a long drive and sing your heart out to.
The vocalist had great stability to his voice. He was constantly smiling as he looked at his guitarists, hitting the notes with ease. The guitarists themselves seemed shy, to be honest. For sure it’s not every band’s vibe, but it’d be great to see their confidence grow over the tour, to the point they approach the edge or just look at the crowd. The vocalist did manage the crowd interaction well, asking how the crowd is and telling the audience about themselves.
It’s always hard as an opener to get that energy going. But- as much as these aren’t the most energetic band I’ve seen open a gig, their music speaks for itself. The crowd weren’t about to reach their hands from the barrier, but everyone was bobbing their heads and cheering. They have a mellow vibe about them and that’s not always a bad thing, even if you are used to bands that demand circle pits.
Honey Revenge are a band I’ve heard A LOT about. Everybody singing their praises whatever chance they get, yet I’ve never managed to see them live til now. The barrier is lined with people holding signs in their honour, and the stage itself is donned with the rainbow flag. The band is an icon for the LGBTQ+ especially, in the scene. It’s undeniable the confidence bands bring to people, when they show being yourself is something to celebrate.
You may have heard of circle pits, but have you heard of the iconic conga line? The vocalist commanded the crowd to start a huge line and they did. I can definitely see the crossover of fans for Honey Revenge and Stand Atlantic. Musically wise, they’re subjects overlap and both have a fun upbeat discography with slower songs when you need a break. Most importantly, both leads know how to have fun on stage and engage the audience.
The vocals are stable and clear. The vocalist has this really nice deeper tone to their voice, that reminds me of Hayley Williams. The guitarist, of course, deserves praise too. They were constantly on the move, never without a smile. It was clear how much the guitarist especially was having fun on stage. It makes the duo a joy to watch, as they sing with you, not at you.
Stand Atlantic made their entrance with dimmed lights and only the vocalist to introduce the set, before the rest of the members came to join them. The Australian 4-piece have been making great headway in cementing themselves in the alternative scene and their fanbase is only growing with each year in the UK. Their high-energy songs proved to be popular, especially on social media.
The crowd has almost doubled tonight. Since the night started, I thought maybe it’d just be a quiet tour date but now the crowd is packed from the barrier to the sound engineer’s deck. The crowd went wild at the barrier and moshing with the members. The members do a great job at hyping the audience up as they approach the edge of the stages and stand on the platforms before jumping off.
Stand Atlantic has a discography that makes you think “oh, this is kinda heavy.” Before dropping their next song with an almost DnB break. It’s a fun night when watching them live. The vibes are just all there- especially with a crowd like tonight. The singer goes from clear soft vocals to ending a song with the harshest fries that make you clutch your pearls. The musicality of the band is diverse, for sure.
Stand Atlantic will be touring the UK and EU til the end of September. The band released their album “WAS HERE” earlier this year, and will be promoting it live up until the end of October if we include their American tour. Honey Revenge and Slowly Slowly will be finishing the tour with Stand Atlantic in the EU.
