HERE.‘Out Of My Hands’ is SKAAR’s latest exposed outpouring of emotions, but this time her melancholic undercurrent is overwhelmed by a liberating desire to escape the issues that she faces. In a surge of glistening pop melodies and galloping beats, her assured vocals teleport fans to a brighter place as she sings, “Let my hair down, feel the sun on my face, close my eyes and listen to the waves, ‘cos it’s out of my hands.”
As the song hints at, ‘Out of My Hands’ was written when SKAAR was at a low point in October of last year. Eager to shift her mindset, SKAAR wanted to channel the uplifting vibe of the Swedish House Mafia’s hits ‘Don’t You Worry Child’ and ‘Save The World’ during a session with Mugisho and David Kjellstrand. She was so invested in the moment that the song seemed to write itself.
SKAAR says, “‘Out of My Hands’ is about trying not to control yourself or how you’re supposed to react to things. 2021 for me was a pretty difficult year emotionally, and my biggest struggle was that I couldn’t let myself stay in the sadness I was feeling. This song really reminded me of the beauty in being sad and how letting my body decide for me could really be a relief. It was also nice to write about just taking it one step at a time, and not to push for life to be perfect right away. When I listen to it now I’m reminded to take a deep breath, close my eyes and try to focus on the small things. I hope it can do the same for other people listening too.”
‘Out of My Hands’ and ‘Get Him Away From Me’ represent the start of more releases to come for SKAAR in 2022. You can also expect her to play more shows in the UK later this year.
SKAAR (Hilder Skaar) was quickly established as Norway’s brightest new talent with early singles ‘Higher Ground’, ‘Turn of the Tide’ and ‘24’. The immediacy of her hits was matched by the greater artistic vision she presented with the debut EP ‘The Other Side of Waiting’. What should have been a dream come true, however, instead became a crisis of confidence. Eventually, SKAAR looked inwards and followed her instinct. The acoustic ‘Waiting’ project showed a different side to her, which she followed by facing her emotions head-on, which in turn gives her new music a revitalised pop edge and a fresh ability to connect.
