Gothenburg has never been short on death metal, and Sacreligious are here to make damn sure that doesn’t change. Formed in the summer of 2024, the young Swedish five-piece are preparing to release their debut full-length, Brutality Incarnated, on September 25, delivering a filthy, ferocious new take on the sound their hometown helped put on the map. Drawing from the rotten Swedish death metal foundations of Entombed and Dismember while embracing the modern brutality of Sanguisugabogg, Sacreligious aren’t interested in simply worshipping the past. Instead, they inject their own distinct personality into the genre through blistering riffs, savage vocals, relentless speed, and unapologetic aggression. Featuring Felix Dahllöf on vocals, William Alvarsson and Hugo Rahm on guitars, Nellie Taghizade on bass and Filip Staberg on drums, Sacreligious have wasted little time making themselves heard. Since forming just two years ago, the band have torn through venues, skateparks and festivals across Gothenburg and elsewhere in Sweden, steadily building a reputation around their intense live performances and crushing physical energy. After releasing two demos independently, both recorded and produced entirely by the band, Sacreligious decided it was time to take things to another level for their debut. Enter the legendary Studio Fredman. Recorded, mixed and mastered at the iconic Gothenburg studio, Brutality Incarnated retains all the raw, decaying violence of the band’s early material while delivering the sonic weight their songs demand. The album is completed by suitably gruesome artwork from James Campbell. The result is death metal with one foot planted firmly in Gothenburg’s blood-soaked history and the other kicking its way into the present. Brutality Incarnated will be released independently on September 25, the same day Sacreligious hit Stockholm for one of their biggest shows to date. |
