Alt/hip hop artist Ryan Oakes has teamed up with rising artist Ekoh for his new single “RUINED,” out now on Position Music. The lullaby-style keys underscore blunt and bold rhymes wrought from a relationship gone south only to slip into a catchy guitar-backed chorus. Ekoh counters with his own confessional recollections.
“If you listen to my music, it’s no surprise I’ve had my fair share of terrible breakups,” Oakes shares. “This is about a relationship that’s so unbelievably toxic it feels like there’s no escape. Ekoh and I have been buddies for years, so it was a matter of time before we collaborated. We found the perfect song.” Listen/share “RUINED” with Ekoh here
Complete with a 3D animated music visualizer from Polar Desert Studios, today’s single follows “DOWN” which Oakes dropped last month. The song tells the story of Oakes’ personal mental health journey and Hot New Hip Hop called it “emotionally vulnerable.”
Working with producer Zach Jones, rapper-singer Oakes has been prepping for the release of his forthcoming debut album. Fans and press alike have latched onto his recent output including “WAKE UP,” “HEAVYWEIGHT” with alt rock phenom Loveless, and his collab with Epitaph Records’ Magnolia Park, “WHITE FLAG,” a trap rap-meets-punk explosion.
“The track channels the familiarity of early 2000s rap-rock and …Oakes wastes no time spitting rapid-fire lyrics that document his rise to fame while taking shots at those who doubted him along the way with a healthy dose of braggadocio” — Alternative Press
“huge new single” Kerrang on “White Flag (feat. Magnolia Park)”
Oakes will be hitting the road this year and has confirmed a slot at the Welcome To Rockville festival in Daytona Beach, FL on Friday, May 19. Watch this space for more 2023 tour dates.
