Rising Norwegian pop talent SKAAR has shared her new single ‘Imposter Syndrome’ today, taken from her album ‘Mad Woman Pt 2’, due for release later this autumn via Warner Music Norway. Stream here.

Written with close friends after experiencing fraudulent feelings about her place in the music industry, ‘Imposter Syndrome’ is an honest tale of SKAAR’s experience, navigating uncomfortable feelings through meek irony and glistening slices of quaint pop.

Speaking further about the track, SKAAR says “‘Imposter Syndrome’ is about all the terrible things you say to yourself on a daily basis about not being good enough, but when you finally say it out loud to other people, you realise how stupid and surreal it sounds. I wrote this song at a time of my life where I felt very much like an imposter in the music business, and I did not feel like I was good enough. I felt like I was that one weird person at a party who stands in the corner with a funny looking hat! Hopefully we all can bond over that feeling through this song!”

‘Imposter Syndrome’ appears on SKAAR’s new album ‘Mad Woman Pt 2’, which follows the release of ‘Mad Woman Pt 1’ released earlier this year. While Pt 1 saw the Norwegian artist traversing messy, complicated and heavy emotions, Pt 2 is her coming out the other end, accepting the cyclicality of life and knowing that the world is waiting on the other side.

Feeling empowered and taking control over the difficult times in her life, SKAAR has never been more confident, with 2023 marking her biggest and busiest year yet. She had her own headline tour in Norway, supported the iconic Tori Amos across theatres in Europe, debuted at the prestigious The Great Escape Festival in Brighton, all whilst continuously writing new music all over the world. The rest of the year sees the artist play a string of festivals, culminating in a headline UK tour this October (tickets here).

For three years, Norwegian singer-songwriter SKAAR has been bound in a straitjacket, gagged by self-doubt and a mistrust of her own memory. Her third record, Mad Woman, is a story of hard-won reclamation, a scream for survival. Pushing the parameters of what pop music is capable of, the album’s hooks and highs offered much-needed sweetness to the bitter realities she forced herself to confront, unravelling her long-avoided trauma.

“The process of making this new album has been incredibly demanding on me. The emotional highs and lows have been very volatile, and I have now spent three years thinking about what I want this album to be. I’ve experienced some incredibly difficult things, and as a consequence my mental health has been fragile…but I really love the songs I’ve written, and the therapeutic effect that writing these songs has had on me cannot be underestimated. It feels like having to let go of an era in my life in order to move on to the next phase.”

Mad Woman tells a story of a person daring to believe in herself and stand her own ground. SKAAR comments: “The whole album is about my journey to dare to listen to myself, believe myself and let it go. I don’t think you can let things go if you don’t accept that they’ve happened.” After all this time, she has never stopped chasing silver linings: she wants her experiences on this album to be a source of comfort, to create a sense of closeness and sisterhood that she experienced with her own friends as she was writing it.

With more than 50 million all-time streams on Spotify and multiple Spellemannprisen (Norwegian Grammys) nominations, SKAAR is a multi-platinum selling artist who is connecting with fans across the world with her pop songs that brim with spirit and vulnerability, including support from tastemakers like The Line of Best Fit, Wonderland and 1883.
