“Catch Me In The Air” LISTEN: rinasawayama.ffm.to/holdthegirl Hold The Girl PRE-ORDER/SAVE: rinasawayama.ffm.to/holdthegirl What the press is saying about “This Hell”: “With Sawayama, hell is the hottest party in town” Pitchfork “A glammy, country-pop inspired banger, ‘This Hell’ is a celebration of community in the face of hardship” NPR “a hook-laden rodeo ride through the current cultural landscape” Rolling Stone “[‘This Hell’] has it all: a fiery chorus, cheeky humor, devil puns for days and even a gloriously cheesy hair-metal guitar solo.” The New York Times Multidimensional pop sensation Rina Sawayama shares the second offering from her highly-anticipated sophomore album Hold The Girl due September 2nd via Dirty Hit with the song “Catch Me In The Air.” The pop anthem premiered as Zane Lowe’s New Music Daily pick on Apple Music 1 and arrives paired with a visualizer created with fan-submitted footage of Rina performing the previously unreleased track across her recent UK and US tours. The song is a tribute to her mother who raised Rina as a single parent. Rina shares, “I really wanted to write about this weird relationship with single parents – you do catch each other in the air,” she explains. Rina adds about the creation of the new song: “‘Catch Me In The Air’ was written in between lockdowns with Oscar Scheller and Gracey. I wanted the whole song to sound like it was on an Irish coastline, like a Corrs video. We put in a key change to go into the chorus, at the end of the pre-chorus to make it lift and soar like a bird. I then worked on it more with Clarence before taking it to Stuart Price. This was the first song that Stuart and I worked on together, and it was the most incredible experience. I’m such a huge fan of his work with Madonna and Kylie so it was a dream come true. We would send each other stock images of coastlines, people doing yoga on a pier, meditating in the middle of a field, hay bales, etc. to get inspired sonically.” Rina’s forthcoming album, Hold The Girl, will also feature the lead single, “This Hell,” a joyous and roaring slice of pop-meets-country. The single is paired with a glamorous Ali Kurr-directed video and debuted with a performance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Hold The Girl follows Rina’s critically acclaimed debut SAWAYAMA and will see Rina once again juxtapose intimate storytelling with arena-sized songs creating another ambitious and original album to excite fans and critics alike. Written and recorded over the last year and a half, Rina teamed up with long-term collaborators Clarence Clarity and Lauren Aquilina as well as enlisting help from the likes of the legendary Paul Epworth (Adele, Florence & the Machine), Stuart Price (Dua Lipa, The Killers, Madonna) and Marcus Andersson (Demi Lovato, Ashnikko) for their magic touch. The product of Rina and these collective minds coming together is an album that melds influences from across the pop spectrum and is a bold and honest statement of Rina’s personal evolution; coming to terms with her own past and the jubilation of turning to the future. |
