Riffs Against Sweatshops, the grassroots campaign set by No Sweat to try and kick sweatshop labour out of the metal scene, will be hosting the second ever gig at the Black Heart on the 12th August.
Following a hugely successful first show at The Dev last years, The campaign are looking to up-the-ante with this second event, which will be a benefit show for No Sweat. Headlined by Bournemouth blackened hardcore metallers Harrowed, the show also features, crusty doom merchants Commoner, atomic thrash bruisers Meltzer (featuring comedian and No Sweat member Andrew O’Neil) and sludgy newcomers Mortuary.
With all profits going towards No Sweat’s international solidarity fund which helps support unionised garment workers around the world, this looks set be a pummelling and uplifting evening of riotous noise.

About Riffs Against Sweatshops
Since its first riffs were forged in the smelting plants of the west midlands, Heavy Metal has been a music for rebels, for iconoclasts and for those who will push back against a system that looks down on them. This spirit of rebellion has meant that, while metalheads can be inclined to strike out into the world on their own, they also have a natural contempt for those who take advantage of others.
With this in mind, No Sweat are launching a new campaign designed to bring the Metal community to the table in the fight against sweatshops, and exploitative labour practices. The longhaired cousin of Punks Against Sweatshops, Riffs Against Sweatshops aims to spread the message of No Sweat in a world where your favourite band tee is a point of pride. Through gigs and t-shirt collabs, among other activities, Riffs Against Sweatshops will continue No Sweat’s work of campaigning against brands that exploit workers, and supporting trade unions in the garment industry around the world

About No Sweat
No Sweat began life in the November 2000 as a campaign against sweatshop labour, both overseas and in the UK, and quickly became a national network of campaigners around the country operating under one banner. Founded by activists from the socialist campaigning group the Alliance for Workers Liberty, No Sweat operated as a broad-based campaign bringing together Marxists and anarchists, with Labour Party leftists, trade union militants and activists from various other backgrounds to work together for common goals.
Emerging from the anti-globalization movement at the turn of the century, No Sweat put class issues and workers rights at the centre of the debate around the extreme conditions of exploitation that were being reported in countries around the world.
