Richmond alternative rock crew feedtherightwolf unveil grunge-laced “Deathstare”

Their moniker is taken from an old Cherokee proverb, and there’s an intrinsic depth and contemplation that ebbs through in feedtherightwolf‘s new single.

The East Coast crew have unveiled “Deathstare”, a track that marries dizzying grunge tones, progressive, hook-laced guitars and a splaying of melody atop the layered instrumentation.

Speaking on the new track, bassist Rob Goff shares: ““Deathgaze” explores the thin margin between life and death. Our joke working title was actually “Def gaze”, as it had that Deftones sort of sound but with washy shoegaze guitars.”

Goff continues: “The lyrics: “Break ground, the soil is hard, labor until you fall apart” and “stay wild, if you can stand the storm…Careful it’s laced with lithium” sums the track up. Two different approaches to how people live their lives, but both still walk the fine line of life and death.”

feedtherightwolf explore the width and breadth of post-grunge, with heavy undertones contrasting deftly with ambient, post-rock influenced guitars and a hauntingly moreish vocal.

From fan favorite “Alpha Uprising” to gritty, hard rock homage “Raining Glass”, the quartet’s debut, self-titled EP resonated with both depth and accessibility.

->The alt/rock grunge staples of the late 90’s and early 00s are prevalent in feedtherightwolf’s debut and indeed their latest work. But for as much as they take from the likes of Bush and Soundgarden, the delivery is also abundant with more contemporary influence.

Nods to Basement, Thrice and Seahaven add a depth and intrigue to “Deathstare”, with undertones of shoegaze feeding a mesmerizing noir in the song’s delivery. Melodic guitars intertwine with Josh Kidd’s compelling vocal to bring feedtherightwolf’s vibrant sonic identity to life on their most thrilling single to date.
