New album “No Limit 2 Luv” out August 1 via Smartpunk Records

Smartpunk Records’ rock n roll stars, Rex Tycoon, have unveiled a new track called “Bird On The Bricks” from their upcoming album, “No Limit 2 Luv,” coming out on August 1. The track’s relatable storytelling was many years in the making and showcases the band’s defining fusion of power pop sensibilities, punk energy, and grooving riffs.

Speaking about the new single, Rex Tycoon shares, “The seeds for this song were planted in my head about 5 years ago at this point on the porch at Keith and Joey’s old place where someone used the phrase ‘bird on the bricks’ in conversation and it stuck in my head for some reason. I went home and laid down the chords, but the song didn’t get developed as a full band until a few years later. It developed into a song about the sensation that I feel a lot of people probably share, the feeling of being sort of stuck in place while the world is moving so fast around you and passing you by. Oftentimes, I feel like I am waiting idly by for opportunities to really turn my life into something, meanwhile, I’m just sort of coasting through life working menial jobs and not doing anything. The lyrics for the song are all sort of coming from that place.”

ABOUT REX TYCOON
In a fusion of power pop greatness, punk energy and grooving riffs, Rex Tycoon’s debut full-length No Limit 2 Luv (Smartpunk Records) shows off what makes the band so special. Bursting to life with “Rock ‘N Roll Star,” No Limit 2 Luv kicks off feeling stadium huge while lyrically professing a humble reality, the sound manifesting the kind of rock ‘n’ roll stardom this album deserves. Over the course of ten songs Rex Tycoon conjures the energy of beer-soaked basement parties as well as meandering, soul searching drives. It’s eclectic but consistent, showing the band’s flexibility and unique stylistic foundation. Guitarist and vocalist Austin Reesman’s knack for storytelling reaches its pinnacle with the album closer “Jesus Drives,” a bluesy, straight ahead rocker that relays the reality and drudgery of the working class people doing their best to survive under untenable circumstances.

Rex Tycoon may dabble in slacker rock, but there’s never been anything lazy about the way these songs come to life. Reesman, Joey Tiberio (guitar), Keith Tucker (bass, synth, vocals) and Jared Stalker (drums) have spent years fine tuning and self-recording infectious rock riffs and poppy hooks from Tucker and Stalker’s Pittsburgh basement. The band took their punk spirit out of the basement and into the studio for their Smartpunk debut No Limit 2 Luv. The album was recorded with Damion Schiralli at Russian Recording in Bloomington, Indiana and mastered by Mike Bridavsky (Russian Recording), and the result is a more spacious sound to reveal all the thoughtful details of Rex Tycoon’s songwriting.

ABOUT SMARTPUNK RECORDS:
Smartpunk has been a recognizable name in the scene for a long time (Remember that sponsored Warped Tour stage?!). After exchanging several hands and countless ideas of what it could and should be, they decided to start a record label in 2016 with the main idea of focusing solely on reissuing records that have been out of print or never on vinyl. After all, they’re a label of vinyl dorks themselves! After releasing Set Your Goals‘ Mutiny and Gameface‘s Good, they started to venture into signing newer bands. They actively balance in between many worlds — putting out amazing music from friends and bands that rock, reissuing older titles, and partnering with other incredible labels in our scene and doing exclusive color variants of their releases. Since forming the record label, Smartpunk Records has released timeless albums such as Less Than Jake‘s AnthemNominee‘s LowlifeRIVALS’ Sad Looks Pretty on MeVirginity‘s POPMORTEM, and melodic skate punkers The Swellers My Everest.
